THAT DOES NOT HELP ME. EVERY SINGLE YEAR, I PURCHASE THE VERSION OF TURBO TAX, THAT KEEPS MY OLD RETURN ON FILE SO I CAN GET IT WHENEVER I NEED IT.....NOW IT WON'T LET ME DOWNLOAD IT. I AM LOGGED INTO MY OWN USERNAME AND PASSWORD ACCOUNT....WHY CAN I NOT DOWLOAD MY RETURN. I FOLLOWED THE STEPS YOU GAVE, IT THEN TOLD ME TO DO THE SAME THING AGAIN. HOW DO I DOWNLOAD MY TAXES, THAT I ALREADY PAID FOR (EVERY SINGLE YEAR)???
For tax year 2019 there is NO requirement to purchase any 2019 online edition, nor is there a requirement that you must file a 2019 tax return using the online editions before you can access to a prior year online return.
You only need to register the 2019 online account to access the prior year online tax returns.
***IMPORTANT INFO***
If you are NOT going to be using Turbotax for 2019 taxes OR you do not wish to PAY the 2019 Turbotax fees at this time… then you MUST CHOOSE THE FREE version BEFORE you log in and stay in the free version.
Start on this screen : https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/
Then follow the instructions in this link:
See this TurboTax support FAQ for accessing prior year online tax returns - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/prior-year-return/help/how-do-i-access-my-prior-year-return/01/270...
For all those that are throwing up links and suggesting contacting Intuit for support... apparently you have never had to use their own advice. Five phone attempts, to which I cannot get past the 2 question without it saying it cant help me and hanging up. 15 live chat attempts to which I get the same results, unable to connect you to a person. I will never use this product again and will be darn sure I share my dissatisfaction with anyone I can.
The above is the best and most efficient way for you to connect with the right person so that you can get the help you need. If you still require assistance, you can contact us at (800) 446-8848.
EXACT SAME SITUATION HERE!!! I'm going in circles and it's infuriating! Have you found a solution yet???
If you used TurboTax to file your prior year return, you would want to make sure you are using the same TurboTax account as in the prior years. This link should be able to assist you with accessing that return:
How to access prior year return
If you still find yourself stuck and in a loop, you can always reach out to customer service for assistance using the link provided below:

If you filed your previous year return with TurboTax, you would want to make sure you are using the same TurboTax account as in prior years. You can then access your prior year return using the Documents tab in the navigation. The link provided below can assist you further:

If you still can't find it in Tax Home or My Docs, you can use the link provided below for assistance or you can get a free tax return transcript or an exact copy of your return directly from the IRS:
Why can't I find my return in Tax Home or My Docs
I'll add what worked for me onto this dumpster fire of a thread.
Or do what others have suggested and download it from the IRS. I didn't try downloading from IRS.
They won't let you view previous years tax returns until after you have filed and submitted this year's. They do this to prevent you from filing with another company. With intuit you wont need to see previous years' returns since they will automatically import it for you. But if you are filing with another preparer, say H&R, you may need some info from a past return. This, on top of the yearly creep in filing fees. I am done with them. Good bye Turbo.
You do NOT need to file or submit this year's return to view previous years tax returns. All you need to do is register your account - which is FREE to do.
How do I access a prior year return?
Follow the instructions which work to register the 2019 account to access all returns in that account for FREE ... and once you have access, save a PDF of ALL the prior year returns while it is still FREE as this situation is subject to change anytime.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! YOU ARE A GODSEND. This was highly annoying. I am done using Turbo Tax now because of this.
Going forward ... no matter which DIY program you use... ALWAYS save a PDF of the return and/or a paper copy when you file the return so you are not hunting for it later.
This is what worked for me. Thank you.
I guess i need to bar turbo taxes from all records I have and tell others. I ask a simple question how to down load last three years taxes. I keep getting other screens to fill out, getting flustrated. Help
