My refund was short almost $1,000 after what TurboTax stated there would deduct. What is going on with this?
I guess we didn't had the fine print where it says if we have our fees deducted from our Federal taxes TPG takes another fee. mine was short $177 if you Google seems like many people don't read that part . my last time using TurboTax.
This is the second time TurboTax have taken lump sum of money from me first one last year which I accidentally pressed expert help where I didn't need it and I called them and told them they still took the money this year from what I'm supposed to get is totally different trust and believe me I will never ever use TurboTax again they're a bunch of crooks and never again.
Your refund could be offset.
The IRS and State Governments have the ability to offset a refund to pay for certain past due debts. You generally will receive a letter stating what the offset was for.
The IRS provides a toll-free number, (800) 304-3107, to call for information about tax offsets.
Yep just got mine and it’s 270.05 short. Plus they were to send my state payment I owed in on to them and didn’t. So hopefully we get some answers on why this is happening.
@Morth81 Sorry but you can not have a state tax due deducted from your federal refund. No, you misunderstood. That's not possible. You only had the Turbo Tax fees for federal and state deducted from your refund. At the end Turbo Tax just shows you the net of federal and state combined but that is only for your own info. You will still get the federal refund and need to pay a state tax due. See, https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/state-taxes/help/can-i-pay-my-state-taxes-from-my-federal-refund/0...
Check the printout or PDF of your return; look for the state cover sheet with the Turbo Tax logo. If you owed tax, it will show the payment information and how/when you decided to pay. Read the state payment instructions carefully since most states cannot be paid from within the TT system and requires additional steps.
Yep I was shorted too. Big surprise, it's always something, thank turbo/TPG
If you requested to have the TurboTax account fees deducted from your federal tax refund, the IRS will send the refund to a third party processor to have the fees and the service charge deducted. The third party processor will deduct the TurboTax fees plus the service charge and then attempt to direct deposit the remaining refund balance into the account that you entered on your tax return.
For the status of your tax refund you will need to contact the third party processor, Santa Barbara Tax Product Group, using their website - https://www.sbtpg.com/

Is the amount sent/issued by the IRS the same as the refund amount shown on your federal tax return Form 1040 Line 35a? - https://www.irs.gov/refunds
If not, then go to this IRS website for information on reduced refunds - https://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc203
Are you also receiving a state tax refund? If so, the state refund is sent directly to you based on how you chose to receive the state tax refund, it does not go through the third party processor.

Have you factored in the TurboTax account fees and the TPG service charge of $40 plus any applicable sales tax?

I received a deposit from TPG Products and had never heard of this company. Google the name and finding it is possibly my tax refund which is not the amount TurboTax told me I would receive. I filed 1040E, choose the free version, so I I am upset I am being charged by a company I have not dealt with during my 2024 taxes.
