I'm sorry I don't have time to look it up for you, but a couple of people on this thread responded with some specific prompts to get through to a live person. That was great insight and that was how I got through. I hope you find those instructions, but post again if you don't...
If you filed electronically and received an acknowledgement, you do not need to do anything other than continue to wait and promptly respond to any requests from the IRS. Please see When will I get my IRS tax refund? for more information.
It has not been my experience that "you do not need to do anything other than continue to wait". I took that advise initially, and ended up with hundreds of dollars of late charge and penalties that I cannot do anything about. That has also not the experience of many who have responded to this thread. Follow up with the IRS when you need to, but do look for those instructions to get through to someone in person. It is hard to get there, but it can be done and it is worth it to get on track. @chloe3827 @MoniqueLO_
IRS has no record of David [PII removed]'s 2020 tax return. As I had help prepare this return how do I correct
this mistake that I might have not e-mailed this return.
When you follow the instructions here, does your e-file status show it is completed? @pelegro4111
Hi,
I also have this same issue. Also my account doesn't have any of my tax returns stored either even though I have been using Turbotax for years?
Actually nevermind, I think it does have it for 2020. I was looking at 2021 and haven't filed yet.
Ok, no worries; thank you for the update @megawatt.
The IRS sent me a letter dated 27 DEC 2021saying I did not file my 2019 1040 tax return. I both filed and paid eletronically with TurboTax. I moved so I have not found my 2018 or 2019 paper copy and may never. I have 2012 thru 2017 and 2020 files. In my Quicken records I show my account being debited on 17 July 2020.

To access your prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the User ID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/
Scroll down to the section Your tax returns & documents. Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)
If you used the desktop CD/Download editions installed on your computer, the only copy of your tax data file and any PDF's will be on the computer where the return was created. TurboTax does not store online any returns completed using the desktop editions.
Call the IRS and ask for "first-time penalty abatement". It won't get rid of interest but it will get rid of your penalties. @tlagoy
as mentioned I filed in March due to some late forms from IRS and was not able to e-file. I mailed my return with attached w-2's and have not heard anything since.
@robert_davila2000 - the IRS is woefully backlogged, especially on paper filed returns. The IRS generally processed in the order received and based on some other posts on these boards and posts on Facebook IRS boards, it appears the IRS is currently working on late-Feb and early March paper filed returns. Assume it will take 6-9 months from the time you filed for the return to be processed. Until the IRS begins processing, there is nothing posted on the IRS WMR tool
so patience is the best approach.
this is on the IRS website:
As of August 5, 2022, we had 9.7 million unprocessed individual tax year 2021 returns. Of these, 1.8 million returns require error correction or other special handling, and 7.9 million are paper returns waiting to be reviewed and processed. This work does not typically require us to correspond with taxpayers but does require special handling by an IRS employee so, in these instances, it is taking the IRS more than 21 days to issue any related refund and in some cases this work could take more than 120 days. If a correction is made to any Recovery Rebate Credit, Child Tax Credit, Earned Income Tax Credit or Additional Child Tax Credit claimed on the return, the IRS will send taxpayers an explanation. Taxpayers are encouraged to continue to check Tax Season Refund Frequently Asked Questions.
How long you may have to wait: The IRS understands the importance of timely processing of tax returns and refund issuance. We have processed all error free returns received prior to January 2022 and continue to work the returns that need to be manually reviewed due to errors. We are continuing to reroute tax returns and taxpayer correspondence from locations that are behind to locations where more staff is available, and we are taking other actions to minimize any delays. Tax returns are opened and processed in the order received. As the return is processed, whether it was filed electronically or on paper, it may be delayed because it has a mistake including errors concerning the Recovery Rebate Credit and the Child Tax Credit, is missing information, or there is suspected identity theft or fraud. If we can fix it without contacting you, we will. If we need more information or need you to verify that it was you who sent the tax return, we will write you a letter. The resolution of these issues could take more than 120 days depending on how quickly and accurately you respond, and the ability of IRS staff trained and working under social distancing requirements to complete the processing of your return.
What you should do: In most instances, no further action is needed but you may check Where’s My Refund? or you can view your account. If you filed electronically and received an acknowledgement, you do not need to take any further action other than promptly responding to any requests for information. If you filed on paper, check Where’s My Refund? If it tells you we have received your return or are processing or reviewing it, we are processing your return, but it may be under review. If you filed before January 2022 and Where’s My Refund? does not have any information, your return has been opened but work on it has not begun. We’re working hard to get through the carryover inventory. Please don’t file a second tax return or contact the IRS about the status of your return.
I am having the same issue with the IRS showing they received my filing from 2021 - HOWEVER, in order to have them accept my now 2022 filing through TurboTax, they are requiring me to match my AGI from 2021 to their records...they are saying they have no records...so, how do I file? I paid for e-filing my fed and state already and my return is being rejected. Is the only option to mail in my 2022 return? How do I receive a refund of the payment I made to e-file if that is the case?
Thank you.
