I see that most of the comments are from Nov 2020. I am just finding that I too have the same letter on the IRS transcript site and it is March 2021. JC, does the IRS really need 7 months to process my 2019 return I filed on 7/15/20 along with my check of $169? I didn't get the last relief check of $600, is this why? They think I didn't file my 2019 taxes? Complete BS.
Exactly. I filed mine 13 months ago and they still haven't processed it. Try filing your 2020 return on line because sending another paper return likely won't work.
I wish I could file on line they rejected me...no way around it ..I filed 13 months ago as well (paper return my mistake!) I tried entering $0 ago $1 agi all denied ..one person said you should of put never filed before..I was not going to mess with that!
I was uncomfortable saying I didn't file in 2019 but it was the only thing that worked for me. I got my $600 shortly after. I can prove that I did file my 2019 return with my cancelled check later if necessary. It's their fault that people have to resort to these methods to file.
IRS cashed my check that was mailed with the return in March 2020, but a year later the transcript request site still says I did not file. Will this change? If not, how do I get a transcript in time to E-file by April 15, 2021?
Are you trying to get the AGI to efile 2020? If they don't have 2019 AGI on file yet then try entering 0 for the AGI to efile 2020.
The IRS will almost always cash a check received with a mailed-in return before processing the return.
As stated elsewhere, if you got a check and along with it some complicated filings you had to do to account for how you would spend it, descriptions of those expenditures as you made them, etc, you would certainly cash the check before working on all that paperwork.
To the fact that the IRS has not made your return shown to you might not be toubliing.
1) Unless the IRS sends you a letter that they haven't received your return you are not in jeopardy
2) Even if they do, if your check was in an amount that included any items the IRS wouldn't know, such as charitable deductions or vehicle mileage or medical expenses, then it can be argued they must have received it to know the dollar amount owed.
3) Do you have proof of the mailing (certified mail and or return receipt)? -- Those would mean you have a perfect defense.
When attempting to e-file this year, I entered the correct AGI from a scan of the form I mailed to IRS with the payment check on March 8, 2020. That was rejected as not matching IRS's "records," which is the first I heard about any problem with either my state or Federal return. The check was credited to me on March 13, 2020, and the IRS "account transcript" shows a credit in the same amount--but doesn't show the AGI.
The "enter 0" trick was worthless. I'd prefer to E-file this year, so this doesn't happen again. This is the first year in a decade that I expect to get a refund, and now there's an apparently insoluble problem. My paper return from last year must have been one of the countless returns destroyed or hidden by overwhelmed IRS workers.
If the AGI from the original tax return (not an amended return ) will not work and neither will a ZERO then your only option is to print, ink sign and main in the 2020 return.
I am in same situation, and because they show no return for 2019 even though there is code 610 on my on the Notice of non-Filing letter for 2019 (Payment received with return), my eFile for this year is being rejected because what I enter for my AGI of 2019 doesn't match their records. It doesn't match because the IRS HAS NO AGI for me because they think they have no record of my 2019 return. I have all my documentation for 2019 including US Mail return receipt confirmation. My Account Transcript online shows for 2019 a negative amount (a credit) for the amount of my check, and they did cash my check.
So did you try entering 0 for the AGI? They may still be behind in processing mailed 2019 returns. The mailed returns didn't get the AGI entered into the IRS database to verify it for 2020.
I am in exact same situation. I tried to eFile first time this year with Intuit and my return keeps getting rejected due to 2019 AGI mismatch. I know I used the correct amount because I have a copy of my 2019 return. The mismatch is because IRS still has no record of my 2019 return online, yet they cashed my check and code on account transcript shows 610 Payment received with return. I also did not receive the 2nd EIP. It's bad enough we have to pay, but to have to struggle and fight to pay is unacceptable. IRS isn't taking calls either, just a recording that says try again later. So it looks like I'll have to paper file again this year, and get put at the end of the line again.
BINGO! Thanks for the suggestion, I entered "0" (zero) for my 2019 AGI and five minutes later got an email from TurboTax, "Great news, your Federal return has been accepted by the IRS."
Yes I entered 0, since it was a joint return I had to make use that both people had 0. The IRS DID accept my 2020 tax return and it has already been posted. Still nothing for 2019.
It worked!!! Thanks!!
