My had to change my account number due to a hacker. How can I change my account and routing number?
@TamelaLee Sorry---if you already e-filed you cannot change your banking information.
You cannot change banking information while your return is in pending, nor can you change it after the return is accepted.
If you e-filed:
Banking information for direct deposit is wrong
If you entered incorrect banking information for your refund, you can change it if your return is rejected. If it is accepted, however, it is too late to change it. The bank will reject the refund and send it back to the IRS. Then the IRS will issue a paper check and mail it to the address you put on your tax return. Expect a delay of at least a couple of weeks to receive your refund.

Did you already e-file? If you did NOT e-file you can go to the FILE section and change how you want to receive your refund. If you want direct deposit you need the routing number and your own account number.
I would like to know how I can change the last number on my account to the correct number.
@rubera518 Have you read any of the replies in this thread? You cannot change your banking information after your tax return has been filed. If you have NOT filed yet then you can edit your banking information in the FILE section.
If you already filed you cannot make any changes to your account or routing number. If the refund goes to a wrong or closed bank account then the bank will reject the deposit and send it back to the IRS. Then the IRS will send a check to the address on your tax return.

@gloriacabuco55 God thing the forum filter removed your info. This is a public user forum and the whole world can see what you post and steal your bank info and scam you. You can't change your bank info here.
@gloriacabuco55 Glad the filter just saved you from possible identity theft--this time. Never post your personal information in this public user forum.

You cannot change banking information while your return is in pending, nor can you change it after the return is accepted. The IRS does not allow it.

@gloriacabuco55 DO NOT POST YOUR BANK HERE! You need to change it on your tax return.
We have the same exact situation... I messed up by missing one number on my bank information but it was still accepted and sent out on the 24th... I kno it's probably unlikely but i really hope it didn't go to another account even tho i missed a number and didn't replace it with another. Please keep me updated on your situation cause i cant even get through to an IRS agent.
If your bank rejects your direct deposit and sends it back to the IRS, the IRS will mail you a check as explained here. Allow up to 14 business days, excluding holidays, once the IRS mails your refund check to receive it.

If it were to go into someone else's account (less common) that can be a problem, but the IRS may try to help you get it from your bank but can't compel the bank.
If the bank refuses the direct deposit, then "where" they send it back to depends on where it was coming from.
Was your refund coming directly from the IRS to your bank account? If so, in that case a rejected deposit goes back to the IRS, who would issue you a check in the mail.
Or did you have any TurboTax fees that you chose to pay out of the Federal refund? In that situation, your bank would send a rejected deposit back to the intermediary company (SBTPG) that took out the fees, and that intermediary company would issue you a check in the mail.
