(Sorry I didn't know how to post in here so I'll provide more details). I already filed 2021 taxes which hav been approved and funds deposited into account. I received the child tax credit in full. On TurboTax, it asked if my husband and I received the full $2800 in stimulus for the TWO of us, which we did, so I selected "yes" because we did. I didn't think at the time that this was kind of a trick question since technically we did, but we didn't get the full amount because missing one for our daughter (if that makes sense). I didn't get stimulus check for daughter born in 2021 as I was supposed to, so I'm trying to amend but there's no option to change or update this.

OK ... first LOOK at the form 1040 line 30 ... is there $1400 there ? And line 28 ... do you see $3600? And page 1 ... which box is checked after your child ? And have you already gotten the original refund yet ???
Did you check 1040 line 30 to see if you got it? Does you baby show up as a dependent? Did you get the 3,600 Child Tax Credit for her on line 28?
Did you say the new baby lived with you the WHOLE YEAR! Go back and check that.
If you had a child born in 2021- Add them under My Info. You need to answer 2 questions…..
Did your child live with you for the whole year? Answer YES even if they were born late in the year (even on Dec 31).
Then was at least half of child's expenses paid by CHILD? Usually is NO.
How to Amend
And when you filed did it ask you how much Stimulus payment you already got? You would have probably put in 2,800?
If you did not get prompted to enter your stimulus information, that means you either:
Form 1040 Line 30 is empty. Line 28 has full $3600. Page 1 box is checked "qualifies for child tax credit". And yes I already received original refund. When TurboTax originally had me file, it asked "Did you and your spouse receive total $2800" and I selected "yes" forgetting I had new dependent, so I should have selected "no" since it's technically not the full amount.
1040 Line 30 is blank. Baby shows up at dependent and I did receive the $3600 tax credit for her.
I reviewed her info as my dependent and everything is correct as you suggested (lived with me whole year, no for expenses).
When doing taxes originally, TurboTax asked if my husband and I received full $2800 recovery for the TWO of us, I selected yes because we did, not realizing at the time we technically didn't receive the full amount as we still are owed $1400 for daughter born in Sept so that's what I'm trying to figure out how to correct that but it doesn't get me that question anymore on the amend form
The IRS will correct this for you and you should get the additional amount with your refund.
The IRS will match your answer to what they have on record.
Your refund may be delayed a bit, but sending in an Amended return before your original will make matters worse.
No it should have asked if you received $4,200 (for 3) not just the 2800. Then you would say No and enter the 2800 you actually got. So something is wrong. Unless you have a high income. Maybe you said you or your spouse was claimed as a dependent.
The IRS already approved taxes last month and I received refund already. They didn’t catch this so I need to amend
No, it asked if “you and Kevin receive full $2800” (TurboTax likes to be personal and used his name throughout lol). We are well within income guidelines for full amount. Everything was double checked after filing as well; we aren’t claimed as dependents ourselves and she is claimed properly. I remember the $2800 question because I originally thought the $3600 child tax credit included the stimulus check, I now know it didn’t. If it said a number larger than $2800 for that question, I would have been confused.
Have you printed out the return and did you also print the worksheets, specifically the "Recovery Rebate Credit Worksheet" (ONLINE) or "Recov Rebate Cr" (DESKTOP)
This worksheet should report what you entered as far as payments
Perhaps you answered the question about the payment before entering the information concerning your new daughter?
Please delete that worksheet (after you first make a copy f the original) and proceed through the screens. The question should be asked a second time.
