did not file my business return for 2020 because I did no business
I’ve filled out and corrected my taxes I need to amend them
I did not file my business report as there was no business during 2020. Do I need to amend my return that was accepted but still not receive my refund? [PII Removed].
No, you do not need to amend your return. The most likely reason you haven't received your refund is that the IRS is way behind in processing 2020 tax returns and refunds.
Please be patient - a whole lot of people are experiencing the same issue.
If you filed your 2020 taxes and haven't received your refund, your experience is very common - the IRS is encountering major delays in processing 2020 tax returns, and is almost impossible to reach by phone.
The IRS Where’s My Refund? site is still the best first place to go for information.
See the following article for additional information on Where is my damn IRS tax refund?
2020 Turbotax downloaded online such as Amazon does not allow people to amend their taxes. It's insane. I've spoken with 10 representatives for over a month and they don't know what to do. On the downloaded version when you try to amend a return, nothing is ever changed on the Form 1040-x doc after you add new W-2 (or whichever new information) so if you try sending it to the IRS, it will be a blank amended document. It won't even let you e-file because it doesn't recognize any changes. The representatives when you call don't know how to fix it. Literally insane and lawsuits will be coming when we can't amend our taxes and get fined. I've been trying for months and it's still not updated or fixed.
What are you amending for ?
Was the original return successfully efiled using the TT program ?
Did you switch to the FORMS mode and look at the return ?
Is the return currently as filed or did it already change with a program update ?
Is there a 1040X in the forms list ? If so delete it. Then if the return is as filed you should be able to start the amendment process.
Don't worry if your refund meter drops to 0; this is normal. Your calculations will come out correctly in the end.
Finish and file your amendment according to the instructions. You can e-file your 2020 amended federal tax return, but most states require amendments to be printed and filed by mail.
If e-filing, you’ll review and transmit your federal return. If not, we'll give you instructions to print and mail your amended return.
3 weeks after mailing your amended federal return, you can start tracking it at the IRS Where's My Amended Return? site. Allow at least 16 weeks for the IRS to process your amended return.
Processing times for amended state returns vary from state to state. If it's been more than 12 weeks since you mailed your amended state return, and you haven't heard anything, we suggest you contact your state tax agency.
This didn't solve the problem.
-I'm adding a W-2 I did not include in my original return.
-Yes, the first was originally filed through TT.
-Yes, when I click on Forms, and click on the Form 1040-x, it's blank. We know it shouldn't be this way because if instead of opening your old return and trying to amend it, you start a new return and start the amending process, the 1040-x doc will slowly start to fill up. This error also shows up at the end when you try to e-file (even though the 1040-x doc is blank and it says "You have no returns eligible for e-filing"
The flaw in the Turbo Tax software seems to be that the 1040-x doc does not update with new information during the amending process so there's no way to file an amended return.
-I tried this both before the update and after all new updates and it still will not amend the return.
-There is no option to delete the 1040-x form. If you try under 'Edit' it doesn't allow it. Plus, you would need that document for an amended return, right?
-I have tried the 'Amend a filed return' with maybe 5-6 TurboTax representatives. Neither way works. 1.) If you try starting with the filed return, and try amending it, the 1040-x doc is never changed, the e-file doesn't work, and there's nothing saying this is an amended return. 2.) If you try going through the process you just wrote above by starting with a blank account and clicking 'amend a return', there is no option to import your 2020 taxes. This is a big problem multiple TurboTax representatives couldn't figure out. So you're amending but you're starting from scratch and if you add a new w-2, you're left without the needed profile information it asks of you and you're stuck. I have shared my screen and walked through both options step by step with Turbo Tax reps who don't know how it works and they cannot come up with a solution.
Upload your original return (.file), then go and download the TurboTax version that is on the website. Click Amend and upload your original version to the new program.
After, request a refund of what you paid on Amazon because of this error and they will most likely approve.
@tim2469 What operating system are you using, Windows or Apple?
I do not see this issue at all. I am running a Windows 10 OS using 2020 TurboTax Premier desktop edition with the latest TurboTax update installed - Version 020.000.1766
Using this procedure -
Continued the 2020 tax return.
Clicked on Federal Taxes
Click on Other Tax Situations
Under Other Forms
On Amend a return, click on the start button
Just amended a 2020 test tax return, The Form 1040-X was populated and ready to print and mail.
You said you do not see a way to delete the Form 1040-X. There is a Delete Form button when any form, schedule or worksheet is opened when using Forms Mode, along with a Print and Close Form button
This is the Form 1040-X for 2020 that was completed -

Yes, the form will be blank in the forms mode unless you want to enter all the information yourself. Amend only fill the form for you in the step-by-step interview mode.
The form mode is not intended for data enter and voids the accuracy guarantee if you use it.
See this TurboTax on how to amend using the desktop version.

I'm using a Mac. I followed your exact instructions, it looks like it might be working and then I get to the e-file part and it says 'you have no eligible returns for e-filing'. So I check the 1040-x doc and it hasn't populated but is completely blank, as if I haven't amended anything. I'm assuming this means I should just print this and send it, right? This has to be a TT error.
I understand that I'm not supposed to manually enter in any numbers. It's supposed to populate for me as I amend my original return. It doesn't populate as it should. When I get to the end of the amending process (after I've added in the new w-2), it says "You have no eligible returns for e-filing". So I know something is wrong. I check the 1040-x (which I haven't touched) and it's blank. Every time.

In the "Other tax situations" section for amending try selecting amend and to cancel the amend. Then switch to the forms mode and if there is a 1040X form - delete it. Then go back to "Other tax situations" and amend. It sounds like a 1040X was created the wrong way and needs to be deleted.
Also be sure that you did not enter the missing W-2 before you started the amend process - if you did - remove it or there will not be anything to amend. You cannot modify the original file and then amend.
(I also use Mac and the amend works fine. and it makes no difference where you purchased the software - it is all the same and every update on a Mac is a total software replacement.)
Right, I do not have any edits to my original return that I'm trying to edit. I've deleted the 1040x and restarted the amending in the 'Other Tax Situations" and the new 1040 x form still doesn't repopulate. Is there no one at TT (not the first people who they connect you with that don't know how it works) who can walk through this with me (the deleting of the 1040x and try to figure this out)? I should have to spend this many weeks trying to amend a return.

I just tried it with the latest update yo be sure that an update did not break something.
It is not necessary to do anything other that choose to amend for the 1040X to populate.
This is what I get:
I have never heard of your problem before.
You might try (as a long shot) a complete uninstall and reinstall.
Corruption could have occurred in the Application or in an associated preference or support file.
The best remedy is to totally uninstall TurboTax and all associate files and then re-install. That will not delete or change any .tax2020 data file that had already been created with the tax data.
To uninstall the application and all associated files need to be deleted and then the application reinstalled. If there was a state then the state must also be reinstalled.
To remove TurboTax from your computer, you'll need administrative rights.
