How can I recover a deleted tax return?

Turbo Tax Premier , this 2021 tax has been filed and already received the return into bank. IRS shorted my return by 1300. dollars , WHY ? the file has been deleted from Turbo Tax on my PC , can I get it back ?

I efiled 2021 tax return and it was rejected , because i enter my ss# wrong and did not catch before i sent.  When i was following how to corrected , my laptop lost power.  when i brought Turbo tax back up files did not exist.  Can you help or suggest what should do.  You say, once tax returned has been filed it can not be erased.

Only the online returns can not be deleted or erased.  Returns done in the Desktop program are only on your computer and can be deleted.  

Are you on Windows?

Your tax return file ends in .tax2019, .tax2020, .tax2021 etc.  Search your computer for it.  Check the Recycle Bin or Trash.  Check in One Drive, etc.  it should be in your Documents then in the Turbo Tax folder.  Check your backups.  Also if you have multiple Windows user accounts, log into each one and do the search for the *.tax2021 data file from within each one and checking the Recycle Bin in each one.

If you don't have the main .tax file you might have one that starts with a Tilde sign ~ like  "~your name.tax2021".  That file is if your computer crashes or your real file gets lost or deleted or corrupt so you can restore it.

I was working on my tax return and decided to take a break.  I hit the x at the top of turbo Tax form and it asked me if I wanted to save.  I said yes.  Then it said I had another form running Error 7000.  not for sure the exact number.  I said okay.  It closed out.  Now when I went in to finish, Turbotax is starting over.  not allowing me to update an old form.

@Dodge_bob   You need the file ending .tax2020 to transfer into the program.  Or .tax2021 to OPEN in the program.    What are you trying to do?  Transfer or Open?  Where did you prepare the file?  Are you trying to move from the Online version to the Desktop program?  You need to download the .tax2021 file/

The tax files (and PDF files) should be in your Documents then in a Turbo Tax subfolder. If you can't find them do a search for all files ending in .tax or .tax2020 or .tax2019, etc. And check the Recycle Bin. For Windows 10 check the One Drive. Did you make any backups? Like DropBox.

Sorry NO.  You can not covert a pdf into the .tax2021 file.  You need to find the .tax file.  Are you on Windows or Mac?  Did you start it in the online version?  Or did you transfer from 2020?  Where did you get the pdf file?

I just completed my personal 2021 return .  I did as I usually do---click on the x at top and waited for the form to save the return.  That did not pop up and the return closed.  I logged back on and my return was blank.  I had worked all afternoon and only needed to finish one Schedule.  How can I restore it?  I went to recycle bin but nothing there either.  PLEASE HELP ME

By default all tax data files and saved PDF's are stored in the TurboTax folder in the Documents directory.

Can you provide more information as to why you can't access your account? Are you using the CD or online? Is there an error message, did you forget your password?
