error in e-file status

I e-filed and printed my returns 10 days ago.  I received an e-mail confirmation from TurboTax that my 2021 federal return had been accepted, and the IRS has already deducted the required payment from by bank account, but when I open the TurboTax 2021 program, the program says that I have not e-filed or printed my returns.

I manually updated the TurboTax 2021 program, and the problem still persists.  How do I fix this?

error in e-file status

We don't really need to confirm status. We have already received email that the Federal return was accepted. We are just waiting for the State to accept.

Turbotax actually ask that you click continue if you think you have already filed. This now tells you that this is a duplicate filing. Contact customer support.

I checked the tab procedure and it does not have any efile history either. I filed 4 returns, those 2 filed 04/12 and 04/13 are still showing the right status of "Accepted" for both Federal and States. But those 2 filed 04/14 and 04/15 are not. Both files with this error still have the States not yet accepted. Who knows...maybe the status will change after the states return are accepted?

Someone just need to fix the glitch in program that fails to change the status. After you fix it then send us an update to install. We will be waiting for the update. thanks!!

What happens when you try to Check E-File Status underneath the File tab? If that area still shows that you have not e-filed your returns, please reach out to TurboTax Customer Support for assistance. The below help article provides instructions.

I have same issue.  I have confirmation of acceptance of e-file with the IRS but turbo tax says I haven't e-filed when I check "e-file status.". Should I transmit again? Will I get a message if I try to re-transmit that I have already filed?

Where does it say not filed or printed?  Is it when you check the filing status?

For the Desktop program you have to check the filing status inside the program.  Open your return and go up to menu item

File > Electronic Filing > Check Electronic Filing Status

error in e-file status

When I check e-filing status in Turbo Tax.  I says I didn't e-file.  It walks me back through the e-file process although I have already filed and received an email confirmation that the IRS has accepted my return.

I called an dapent an hour+ on the 'phone with a support agent.  He also was unable to resolve the issue.  I can't say I'm wonderfully impressed with my Intuit product this year.

My daughters are living in the Netherlands and have the same problem with the status of their accepted e-file. My youngest daughter called the Intuit help desk. After hours they recognised the problem and promised to inform the programmers department. After many updates of the program the bug still exist. Is the group of Americans living abroad not important enough to make a product without bugs? She called again and the only advise she got was to file again by printing without sending by registered mail. The status changed in “Return printed for filing”. Then it should be possible to amend the filed return if necessary. Is there anybody out there who knows more about this?

She used Turbotax Premier 2021 (desktop version) and has a pdf-file of the accepted e-filing. There are no error signs in the list of forms. Calling back is not an option. The people of TurboTax Support are nice to talk to, but have no idee or are not allowed to tell what is wrong. My daughter will try to use this pdf when starting with Turbotax Premier 2022 the end of March. If that is not successful she will try the pdf-file of the "Return printed for filing" made in December 2022. Thanks for your advise.

To clarify, is she having issues transferring her 2021 tax data information into TurboTax 2022? If so, she will need to locate the tax data file and try importing her return that way.  Please see Find your tax data file (.tax file) in Windows for more information.

error in e-file status

She e-filed her 2021 Return on the 11th of April 2022. The IRS accepted her return the same day. My theory is, that there were program updates after the 11th with minor alterations of the necessary forms and that the IRS have accepted or corrected this because it did not change the final outcome. However comparing the pdf of the e-file and the pdf of the printed Return (created last December) did not give noticeable differences.

But TurboTax probably changed the status (in unfiled) because of an incomplete e-file. To avoid this possible risk with the next return my daughter will wait until the beginning of June with transferring her 2021 tax data information into TurboTax Premier 2022 (desktop version CD). The deadline for expats is June 15 2023. She does not know yet which of the 2 pdf-files to import. Thanks.

error in e-file status

Sorry. I realise, that she must try to import an available *.tax2021 file in the software for tax year 2022 to get the best result.

error in e-file status

To-day she installed the TurboTax Premier 2022 (desktop version CD) software and imported her *.tax2021 file with the status "Return Printed for Filing". Everything went smoothly. Problem solved. She will wait with e-filing until the end of May.
