Frustrating, yes. But no advantage in e filing it.  I ended up filing my amended prior years by mail. IRS acknowledges receipt, but they haven’t done anything with them yet. It’s been almost a year now.

Only the 2021 amended tax return can be e-filed when it becomes available on 03/17/2022.  Prior year amended return cannot be e-filed but must be printed and mailed.

Why would they only allow you to amend 21 taxes and not others ridiculous turbo tax is pathetic will not use again.

@Miketoyota  No one said you cannot amend an earlier year.   You can amend.   You just cannot e-file the amended return.  You have to print, sign and mail it.  

 Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Some paid tax preparers can still e-file a 2019 amended return.   You cannot e-file a 2019 return using TurboTax.

To me it sounds like you can amend an originally efiled return only after it's been Accepted......not that you can efile the amended return.
