Can I e-file my federal Form 1040-X amended return?

Generally, you can e-file your amended 2025, 2024, or 2023 federal return via TurboTax if your original return was also e-filed in TurboTax.
However, there's a chance your return can't be e-filed based on your unique situation. If this happens, you'll need to print and mail your tax return.
If you're amending your return for 2022 or earlier, you need to print and mail your amended return. Follow these instructions to amend a prior-year return.
Your amended return can take up to 20 weeks for the IRS to process. If further review of your return is necessary, the IRS may take longer.
Three weeks after mailing your amendment, you can start tracking it at Where's My Amended Return? on IRS.gov.
