Is there a timeline when the problem would be fixed?
Thank you!
Thank you for your helpful reply. I will go ahead and send in my paper 1040x.
How to file:
Do not include your old 1040 nor your revised 1040 because the Form 1040-X reflects any changes there and becomes your new tax return.
Include any new/corrected document only if it shows federal tax withheld, and include in order only those Sequence Numbered tax forms and Schedules that changed or were added due to your amendment.
Attachment Sequence Number is on all the forms and Schedules that come after 1040.
If you are using TurboTax you have to do this by visual comparison. The program won't break out those pages for you.
If your amendment dropped a form,
you should include with Form 1040-X a new copy of the form(s) with -0- in the appropriate lines.
---
If any forms specify an attachment, put all those attachments at the end in the same order as the forms they go with.
---
Mail to the address shown for your location in the most recent Instructions for Form 1040-X.

Same problem here. My online TurboTax for 2023 "amend" process goes in an infinite loop.
I purchased the desktop version of 2024 TurboTax Deluxe thinking may it would let me amend 2023. Now I find out I must have the 2023 desktop version of TurboTax.
The On Demand Tax Guidance says "You used TurboTax Online to prepare your previous year return. Follow these instruction to get a download of the version you need.
The link leads me to nothing.....just a bunch of complaining posts. Where am I supposed to get the 2023 download without paying for it again?
I have spent TWO HOURS on this just trying to complete a 1040-X with a simple amendment. If I could do it by hand, I would! I am just not an accountant. This is painful and unnecessary. Why can't it just WORK like it's supposed to?
Thanks......kind of sort of....
@silverleaf1 If you purchased one of the 2023 online editions you will need to contact TurboTax support so they can push a 2023 desktop installation file to your download account at no charge.

These types of answers are not helpful. The question is not where to find the link, but that the link does not work. I am experiencing the same thing and keep getting the run around from TT support.
The issue has been resolved. Please see this link for more guidance on amending your prior year tax return.
I had to amend 2023 on desktop version, directed there from online version. Once completed, will mail but I need to get the corrected information back in the TT system. My 2024 taxes won't be correct unless I do. Online if I use TOOLS> Transfer last years turbo tax return from your computer" doesn't allow me to do so because "once you register your tax return or pay any turbo tax fees, we can no longer clear and start over" .
Would desktop 2024 allow me to upload .tax2023 amended return to the system so it is reflected in my 2024 tax preparation if I used the desktop version 2024 this year? Thanks!
Yes, if you used the desktop version to Amend your 2023 return, you can transfer your amended return into the 2024 desktop product and prepare your 2024 return.
Here's more info on Transferring a Prior Year Return.
The issue has NOT been resolved.
"Amend using turbo tax online" button does not work as of May 2nd 2025.
When trying to use Turbotax Desktop product as suggested, I'm sent to a page where I have to purchase that software. I've already paid TT for my return, I should be able to amend it without paying for addition software. Please advise.
We'd love to help you complete your tax return, but need more information @marysoftthesea. Can you please clarify your question? Are you trying to amend a 2024 or 2023 tax return? Also, can you confirm if the return was originally e-filed or filed by mail?
