My tax refund is last and it’s been over 3 months since I filed my taxes

Sorry only the IRS controls when you get it.  The IRS is taking longer this year due to Covid-19.   See this IRS page for the latest information

My tax refund is last and it’s been over 3 months since I filed my taxes

Only the IRS and your State control when and if a Federal or State tax refund is Approved and Issued.

Once a tax return has been Accepted by the IRS or a State, TurboTax receives no further information concerning the tax return or the status of any tax refund.

After the tax return has been Accepted by the IRS (meaning only that they received the return) it will be in the Processing mode until the tax refund has been Approved and then an Issue Date will be available on the IRS website.
See this IRS website for federal tax refund FAQ's - https://www.irs.gov/refunds/tax-season-refund-frequently-asked-questions

Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.

Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
Then press 4 for all other inquiries
It should then transfer you to an agent.

My tax refund is last and it’s been over 3 months since I filed my taxes

Well I've been waiting since March for my federal taxes to be accepted as well. My estimated dates keeps getting pushed out. Now it says October 21st. Problem is I owe a considerable amount and I chose to pay it electronically. Now I don't know if I'm going to get charged a penalty for late payment on owed taxes because its been delayed. I'd mail a check in but I don't want to get it withdrawn twice and wait another 4-5 months to get my over payment returned.  So how do I handle that?

My tax refund is last and it’s been over 3 months since I filed my taxes

@Lizardkhing6 What in the world did you do?  Did you send n an amended return before your original return was fully processed?  What do you mean you have been waiting since March for your return to be accepted?  What estimated date are you talking about ?   If you owe tax due ("I owe a considerable amount")   you do not have an estimated date to receive a refund.  That makes no sense at all.  When you e-filed, was the return accepted or rejected?  If it was rejected--what did you do?  Did you fix it and re-file or did you print sign and mail it?  if you mailed it, it would not be "accepted" the way an e-filed return is accepted or rejected.  The IRS would simply open the envelope and process the return.  Did you enclose a payment?  Or did you enter a bank account that you wanted the IRS to debit the tax due from?

Please explain more clearly what you did to file your return so we know how to help.

Sorry for my delay in responding. Have you ever e-filed using Turbo Tax? If you have you'd notice or experience the process of submitting and the messaging on the status screen showing pending or accepted/rejected in your account status screen.  I've filed my own taxes for several years. E-filed the last several years. I did not amend my federal return I simply submitted it via efile. It was stuck in pending acceptance status in Turbo Tax from July till the end of the year and now has disappeared! I owed taxes this year due to a profitable K1 distribution. I'm not getting a refund, I thought I was clear on that. Now, I've been left to twist in the wind as Turbo Tax has no answers, but yet took my $$ for the cost to e-file my federal returns. Now, I can only hope that the IRS doesn't penalize me for not filing my taxes.

My taxes are also delayed. Who do I talk to so they won’t take the tax money I owe turbo tax, directly out of my account?

Are the fees supposed to come out of your refund?

Many people are experiencing refund delays. To find out why your tax refund is delayed, login to your account at the IRS to look for an explanation. The reason for the delay will depend on your circumstances. For more information, see: When will I get my IRS tax refund?

To verify that the return has been e-filed,

For more information, see: My return is accepted but still not approved. Is there a problem? Should I be worried?

Why do some refunds take longer than others?

Some reasons for tax refund delays for the 2020 tax year:

  1. The IRS began receiving returns two weeks later than usual.
  2. The 2020 tax rules changed March 11, 2021.
    1. Any returns filed before this had to be recalculated by the IRS, adding an automatic 10 weeks in most cases to the processing.
  3. The IRS is short-staffed with large numbers of workers still working virtually due to the pandemic while being tasked with issuing three sets of checks while processing people's returns.
  4. Each set of checks to all eligible persons has different rules.
  5. There have been some persons experiencing lost, stolen, destroyed or not received payments that must be helped.
  6. There are additional checks that are expected to be sent from the American Rescue Plan legislation that will impact the 2021 return.
  7. The states have not chosen to cooperate 100% with the federal rules and did not pass legislation immediately in response to the retroactive changes.

TurboTax has updated everything and provides a 100% accuracy guarantee. The very complex federal and state tax laws are verified before release so that customers can have full assurance and trust in their tax return filings.

This doesn't matter to the millions of people affected most by e-filing services such as Turbotax. Weather or not it's your fault this leaves an unfixable bad taste in a lot of customers mouths.  You view reddit and see that the largest percent of people STILL waiting for their refunds used the Turbotax services. I can guarantee Turbotax will take a massive customer loss because of this.

  • I have filed my tax return 3 months ago and it is still pending. I do not want to call the 800 IRS number again. I want answers. I want to speak to a person who can answer my question as to what is going on with my tax return.
