What do you mean that you paid CA "through tax?" It is impossible to pay a state tax due from a federal refund, so if you thought you paid via your federal refund, you did not pay. And if you paid by using your bank account or credit card, then your own bank or credit card records are your only proof.
TurboTax does not pay your state tax, so TT is not going to have any sort of receipt for you. In fact, TurboTax never knows how, when or even if you paid your tax due.
You should check the filing instructions that print out with the tax return to see what your instructions were at the time you filed for how to pay your state tax.
If your bank records show a payment to FTB for the amount of tax that was due on your tax return, they should accept that bank record as proof that you paid.
If your bank records show a payment to TurboTax, that is for TurboTax fees, not for paying your tax. TurboTax does not pay your tax for you.
You might have entered your bank routing number and account number in your California tax return to pay by electronic funds withdrawal (EFW, also called direct debit). If that's what you did, TurboTax just sends the bank information to FTB along with your tax return. TurboTax does not make the payment. FTB withdraws the payment from your bank account using the information that you entered.
Thanks! I think that's what happened. In my bank transaction details, this payment was paid to California Franchise Tax Board.
I think I can just attach this record and the pages in the return that include my banking info in the mail. Thank you!
Thanks for answering!
What I meant by "pay through turbotax" is that I used the Direct Debit feature, so IRS or FTB can directly withdraw money from my bank acount, like this post described:
I looked into 2020 return files, there are places indicating that I'd like to use online payment to pay for my tax return. Other than this, I only have my bank transaction record.
Did the IRS take your federal tax due out of your account? Or did you have a refund? Some banks use a different number for deposits and payments. But if your bank statement shows it being paid to the CA FTB then that should be enough.
