When does the 2024 version of TurboTax become available for downloading?

The TurboTax desktop CD/Download editions for 2024 would normally be available to purchase sometime in mid-November of 2024.

Remember that the first downloadable version is unlikely to be complete or fully updated with all 2024 information.  It usually requires one or more program updates throughout the winter before the program is fully ready to file a tax return. The basic forms are usually ready by January 7, but some more complicated forms may take longer. (This is also often due to IRS delays in releasing updated forms and instructions.)

For tax year 2024 TurboTax has eliminated the CD and will only use Download software for installing the desktop editions on either a Windows or Mac personal computer.

Yes they recently made that known.  

For 2024 they are only selling the download, no CDs. And if you have a Mac you need Ventura 13 Or newer

Even if you bought the CD before you could use the download method to install it. I always bought the CD from Costco. But last year for 2023 I bought the download from Costco online. Installed it real fast. It was the same as the CD. Most of the laptops and computers now don't have a CD drive. And I had to get a new laptop with Windows 10 to run Turbo Tax starting for 2022.

@sraywillson Yes, that is correct.  There will not be any plastic CD's for the 2024 software.   It will only be a download.   But----many computers no longer have disc drives.  And even if you used a CD in the past, you always had to download the updates and the state software, so it is not much different from past years.

@sraywillson   People are getting confused with the Online browser version and the Desktop installed program. The Download program is not the Online version. The Download program is EXACTLY the same Desktop program as the CD. You buy it the same way directly from Turbo Tax or in stores like Costco. When you installed the CD you still had to go online to update it. It's only the method you use to install it. Even when I bought the CD I used the download method to install it.
