I also stopped using my USAA credit card and got a new one from WF which updates just fine. Let's be sure to tell USAA why we're leaving them though - otherwise they will never fix it and it won't help anything.
This does not work to show any new transactions though.
From what I understand Mint and many of the other tools use screen scrape to get the data from financial institutions. It looks like Plaid doesn't do that.
I can say Fidelity full view also fails for USAA credit cards so I doubt the issue is with Mint. USAA likely changed something that breaks the ability to screen scrape the data. From a recent conversation with support at USAA, they said USAA is only using the last 4 of the account. I wouldn't expect any tool doing a screen scrape to work without a full account number. Supposedly my incident is escalated to their level 2 support. But the ticket has also been open for 3 weeks and the previous 3 tickets going back to September were all closed with no contact or update on the problem. Not sure I have high expectations for this ticket to be fixed or updated
FROM USAA:
Member is trying to connect USAA account to Mint, but the Mint application cannot retrieve the Member’s account information. MINT is software used for budgeting. Recent digital updates to USAA.com and Mobile App for Credit Card may impact MINT app connectivity. This temporary situation is due to recent credit card page updates and their compatibility with MINT.
Solution:
Inform the member that the Mint application cannot retrieve their account information
Common Causes:
The Mint application uses a technology called screen scraping to use a Member’s USAA username and password to login to usaa.com and gather the data needed to power the application. Updates made to usaa.com can break the functionality of the screen scraping capability of Mint. USAA does not support screen scraping as a method for sharing data with applications.
MINT! FIX THIS!
I won't be leaving USAA, it's not them. I might leave MINT since it is their fault.
@wildfire99516 I just received a call from USAA website support with the same message.
There is nothing for Mint to FIX. This is a change USAA made to their data. Mint would need to CODE a new interface to gather the data. Screen scraping is a very common method for retrieving data due to data field layout changes when you code a specific tool for a specific vendor (like USAA is proposing).
USAA needs to fix the problem they created with their software changes in September, not Mint.
FYI -- i did this and it was not successfull
Same issue - I just added USAA (just started using Mint) and the credit card is not there at all.
MINT should be ecstatic about an API being available. A direct link to a database without screen scraping is a much better data collection method! It's quicker, way more accurate and less resource intensive to pull data from API.
MINT should be thanking USAA!
Couldn't agree more that an API is a better choice but for a vendor to blindly change your ability to get data for a mutual customer without notifying anyone of the change is a poor plan. Then for USAA to not own up to the problem and finally try to tell customers it is a Mint problem is just plain deceptive.
I am certain Intuit doesn't have programmers just sitting around waiting for other companies to make changes that break their software. They likely have a change control process and release path for their software development.
USAA is the best company on the planet. I would say screen scraping is not the safest way to get access to private data. Mint should speak with USAA about sanctioned, approved, safe ways to access customer data.
In modern times, I have never seen a simple data connectivity issue take 3 months to fix and it is still not fixed.
I like Mint, but will likely be switching to another financial systems (non-Intuit) in January.
How is is screen scraping not secure? The authentication is done at the sign in. Screen scraping is the method for extracting the data. It is a very common method used to minimize the need for expensive custom interfaces.
Good point! OK, since screen scraping cannot happen until after authentication, it is not less secure. Still, aren't the normal ways for apps to share data through API or log ingestion? What I really do not understand is what is being done to fix this and when? If screen scraping is no longer an option because of USAA's policy, then what is the plan to use a different method that is supported?
I've had the exact same issue and been uable to find a resolution....VERY FRUSTRATING! If this can't be resolved I am also considering moving to another product, which is unfortunate since I've been using it for almost three years now with no such issues.
If anyone has a solution PLEASE HELP!
Good news. Well better news than what I've been receiving up till this point.
I actually just received a phone call from Melissa, a manager in the website customer support organization and she acknowledged that USAA made a change that does not allow mint, Intuit, or any other financial institutions that pull data in the old method to be able to gather the credit card data anymore. USAA is working with Intuit to develop a fix for the problem which USAA has introduced. There is no timeline for this fix.
While this is not great news, it at least shows that USAA is now willing to accept responsibility for the change they made back in September which caused all the problems. That is more than they've done up until this point. While this doesn't give a solution for the problem, at least now I know that USAA recognizes and acknowledges the problem they have introduced.
Let's cross our fingers and hope we get a quicker resolution than we got for and acknowledgment of the problem.
Again, I'm hoping that USAA will do the right thing and get all the necessary information to Mint and other financial budgeting tools so that USAA's credit card data can be extracted from USAA into the budget tools we are using.
