How can I file 2020 taxes if my 2019 paper return is not yet processed by   Irs ?    I have a refund carryover to 2020.

No one will be filing a 2020 tax return until 2021.  The 2020 software is not yet available.   

 

Did you file your 2019 tax return?

 

 

There are a lot of delays for 2019 federal refunds.  Did you mail your return or e-file?

 

If you mailed it:

The IRS has just started to work through millions of mailed returns that have been piling up in trailers during the pandemic.  All you can do is watch the IRS refund site to see when your return makes it to the surface and goes into processing. Sorry.

Processing Delays for Paper Tax Returns: Taxpayers should file electronically through their tax preparer, tax software provider, or IRS Free File

We’re experiencing delays in processing paper tax returns due to limited staffing. If you already filed a paper return, we will process it in the order we received it.

Do not file a second tax return or contact the IRS about the status of your return.

 

If  you mail a tax return (or a payment) to the IRS, it is a good idea to use a mailing service that will track it like UPS or certified mail so you will know it was received.

 

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. 

 

TurboTax will not know anything about your mailed return, and will continue to show “Ready to Mail” on your account.  TurboTax will not know that you put your tax return in an envelope and took it to a mailbox.  TurboTax does not get updates on mailed  (or e-filed) returns.

 

When the IRS finally opens its mail and begins to process mailed returns you can check the status on the IRS site. https://www.irs.gov/refunds

 

State returns have to be mailed to the state.

Did you e-file?  Did you click a big orange button that said “Transmit my returns now?”

 

When you e-file your federal return you will receive two emails from TurboTax.  The first one will say that your return was submitted.  The second email will tell you if your federal return was accepted or rejected.  If you e-filed a state return, there will be a third email to tell you if the state accepted or rejected your state return.

 

First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:

  Or does your account say “Ready to Mail?”

 

Note: If it says “Ready to Mail” or “Printed” that means YOU have to mail it yourself.  TurboTax does not mail your tax return for you.

To check on regular tax refund status via automated phone, call 800-829-1954. (This line has no information on Economic Impact Payments.)

TurboTax gives you an estimated date for receiving your refund based on a 21 day average from your date of acceptance, but it can take longer.  Many refunds are taking longer during the pandemic. 

 

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control. TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 20 of your Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing.

I ordered and paid for turbotax desktop because the contact person from turbotax said It would let us do certain things that turbotax online was not doing. As it turned out I found it too complicated and with the deadline upon me I finished the return using the online version. The contact from turbotax said she would send me a link to get a refund but i never got it. 

What do I do now?

Only customer support can resolve a billing issue.  Use the word "billing" in your request for help--not "refund."

Unable to get my download of Turbo Tax for current year. I am using the most current IPAS Air and am limited to 25MB attachment.

My Federal ID that was sent to me last year was [Removed].  My 2021 form has been rejected and it appears that there is a problem with the Federal ID.   If not, I have no idea why it's being rejected. I have a very simple return.  Social Security income plus a pension plan on a W2 which is taxed for $783. Pls advise what my problem is on my return.

PS Last we received a refund of $2215. My calculations on the 2021 return are only $59.  Has the 2021 tax code been adjusted that much.

When I try to  enter my social security data,  a blue ball/balloon pops up and I cannot enter a number.  Sorry I can't figure out how to delete it. Help

This has been successful so let's see if this will help - Save your tax return.  Close the TurboTax program.

 

Right click on the TurboTax 2021 icon on your computer screen.

Click on Run as Administrator

Start the TurboTax program and continue your tax return.  See if the problem has been resolved.

i have been asked to use form 3804. i haven't had to use this in the past.

  • Do you have a specific question?
  • Are you referring to California Form FTB 3804, Pass-Through Entity Elective Tax Calculation?
  • Who is asking you to file Form 3804? 
  • Are you a partner, shareholder, or member of a pass-through entity?

California law allows a credit against income tax to certain taxpayers who are partners, shareholders, or members of a qualified entity that elects to pay an elective tax.   

According to Purpose in the 2022 Instructions for Form FTB 3804, Pass-Through Entity Elective Tax Calculation, taxpayers use California's Form FTB 3804, Pass-Through Entity Elective Tax Calculation, 

[T]o report the elective tax on [an] electing qualified [Pass-Through Entities] qualified net income. Form FTB 3804 also includes a Schedule of Qualified Taxpayers that requires the electing qualified PTE to identify the qualified taxpayers, report the pro-rata share or distributive share and guaranteed payments of qualified net income amounts, and calculate the elective tax credit amounts. This schedule will allow the FTB to trace the elective tax credit payments from the electing qualified PTE return to the qualified taxpayers’ returns upon receipt of the completed form FTB 3804.

I am still working on the 2021 taxes.  Overtime I enter economic impact question it wants her to pay a 1400.00

Should not have entered it on income question from the 6475 letter recovery rebate,  She had already  receive ed the 1400.00 dollars.  ow do I et it out of her income on the federal?

Who is her?  Was she claimed as a dependent?  If it is wanting her to pay back the $1,400, was she not entitled to it?  Did you enter it twice? Was the letter addressed to her or a person who claimed her? Was she married and the letter says she received $2,800? If so, if she is not filing a joint return this year and you entered $2,800, simply change that to $1,400. 

 

In general, if she was entitled to the rebate and received it, she would not have to pay it back. 

 

Double check that it is not none of the above are the issue.  If they are, simply change your answers.  

 

However, be sure that when you make the changes she does not get it refunded to her again on the return.  If she does, her return will be delayed and adjusted to account for the error.
