Turbotax Deluxe 2020 keeps crashing

Yes I'm using the Cdn version, but crashes also so it isn't just a USA issue.

I would think you would want to communicate with the Canadian folks most likely familiar with your product.  Things are likely to get confusing in a USA forum.

I can give you a few tips below, but after that, you are likely best served over in the Canada TurboTax community forum and TurboTax Canada Customer Support.

Be sure your TurboTax program is installed on your system's hard drive and not installed on a removable external or thumb drive.

Also be sure the *.tax2020 data file is on your hard drive; i.e., be sure that you are not accessing and working on the tax file while the file is on a removable external or thumb drive.

I'm a fellow user, and the things I would tell a fellow USA user with the USA product would be to first try downloading and installing a manual update of the TurboTax program, and after that, if still needed, a repair of TurboTax.  And if still needed after those things, to try an uninstall/reinstall, or to phone TurboTax Support for realtime help.

I don't know if or where you can get a manual update to the Canada product.  You'll have to ask in the Canadian community forum if there is a manual update.  Or look at the Canadian Support FAQs on the TurboTax Canada website to see if it has a manual update.  Or contact Canada TurboTax Customer Support to inquire.

As for a repair of TurboTax, here's how it's done in the USA product.   I don't know anything about the Canadian TurboTax product or whether this works with it, so your mileage may vary.

TIP:  If I were you, while you are trying to resolve your issue, I'd make a backup copy of the *.tax2020 data file and store it somewhere safe such as a thumb drive or other external storage, just in case something goes wrong.

I have the same problem.  Using Big Sur 11.2.2.  Intuit offered a refund, not a fix.

Ditto again!  I still have the CD, but it no longer will load a working version.

I am not in Canada and every "tip" you gave I already tried to do

Turbotax Deluxe 2020 keeps crashing

After redownloading twice I was able to do my taxes. I wish I had more of a fix for you but I had to keep trying and it eventually worked

Turbotax Deluxe 2020 keeps crashing

I am now unable to download TT when entering my TT license code.  (Original CD bought from Amazon, worked for a few weeks)

This may be because I accepted an offer from Intuit to refund what I paid for TT Premier 2020.  I do not know whether the refund occurred, too early to tell, but they may have removed my right to download a (revised? refreshed? working?) copy.  This does not help me to finish working on my taxes.  If Intuit Customer Relations are paying any attention to this, will they please get in touch with me to offer some help?

Perhaps if I buy a new copy at FULL PRICE FROM  INTUIT INC. PAYING CASH (how?) they will stoop to get me out of the pit I am in.

Or maybe they don't know how to make their own software work properly, because they years ago laid off the folks who developed and maintained it.

Sorry for the caps, and moping, but I am suffering.  And , I am not a robot or troll, I am a real, faithful proponent of TT. I have recommended it to several folks over the years.  I also have for a long time had my doubts about Intuit Corp. and their pay practices to (fired? laid-off?) workers.  I wonder if this is a little (so far?) payback for perceived unfairness.

Turbotax Deluxe 2020 keeps crashing

SUCCESS!  story follows.

OK, I finally got serious help from an Inuit TurboTax  specialist.  Seeing my checkered history of clearing this and that, and no obvious hardware or system update shortages, she gave me a fresh copy of TT with a new license code as a download--but I couldn't download it!  We saw a "data transfer snag" message and she opted out, saying there was a problem with my laptop or its operating system  (MacBook Pro, late 2013, plenty of memory and storage, running MacOS 11.2.3).  We signed off cordially.

Well, I had my doubts of course, but a simple ftp file transfer should have caused no problems, so I had no argument to pursue.  Hoping that progress had been made, I steered to Apple Support, expecting a Genius Bar appointment with diagnostics run, more software clearing out and reinstallation, and much time spent on all sides.  Good luck with that COVID-19 thing.  But Genius Bar appointments are almost exclusively for hardware problems these days, and so we tried to narrow this one down by ruling out a software issue.  The next step was to reinstall the OS, something I haven't done in ages and was nervous about.  I was short of time right then, so we launched the reinstall and signed off.  The next day things looked flakey:  I could not find this or that function or component location, but today I got another big task done and gathered my courage.  I resolved the minor OS problem as a user issue with getting used to default settings I hadn't seen in years, and then easily downloaded the fresh copy of TT, used it to finish my tax returns, and printed a review copy to go over with my wife.

Bottom line:  when TurboTax crashed, it was because my OS had somehow gotten corrupted.

Yeah, my TT 2020 keeps CRASHING too when I click Begin Return, says "Looks like we've run into a error". I can supply my email address and description help them improve TT. They'll only notify me if they need more info. Well it's been over a month, I've entered my info about 10 different times and no one contacted me.  I called TT support, they asked me to clear my Browser cache. I told them I'm not using TT in a browser, it's an installed application. No browser necessary to start a tax return. Without saying a word, she put me on hold and never came back.

I've been using TT for over a decade, never had this problem before. Seems a LOT of people are having this issue. Intuit is really starting to piss customer off. We paid for this software and expect it to work and not ignore this problem so many people are complaining about. I have the latest update of TT and Windows 10. I've been working in IT for 21 years so it's not like to don't know what a computer is.

Sorry you're having trouble.  This is user community forum, so maybe folks here can suggest something.  You said you are using the Windows version.

Instead of clicking "Begin return", does it also crash when you do this?  Launch TurboTax, then at the main screen go to top left corner of the TurboTax interface, click on the FILE menu, and in the dropdown choose "New Tax Return."

We don't know what all you have tried.  Have you tried running a "repair?"

Or have you tried an uninstall/reinstall?  If I were going to uninstall/reinstall, I would download the latest installation file to use.   i.e., I would download a new instance of the installation file.   If you're installing from a CD, it's an early release, and the downloaded installation file may be a later release, especially if it was originally purchased from TurboTax.   If you're using a CD, we can tell you how to get a download instead.

Turbotax Deluxe 2020 keeps crashing

None of your tips helped. Would be great to make a backup of the *.tax2020  file IF I could get it to run without crashing at the "Begin a return" phase. Grrrrrr!

I was almost done. Can I retrieve my input or do I have to start over?

I agree, I have used turbo tax for decades and not it is crashing every time I enter data, I have to save after every entry just to make progress and the idiots at Intuit are saying no one else is having the problem and it must be my computer, then I come here and many other people are experiencing the same thing...  I will not use turbo tax ever again after this.
