Were you able to clear the error with this? I am still experiencing the same crash at filing stage after following this guide to delete and reinstall.  :(

Yes I was able to submit the max of 3 states and federal. I had to do them each individually and wait to get notice that each were accepted first. I took many backups along the way (saving the file with new names) and had to use the backups too as key data would get stripped/lost. It was very frustrating but ultimately worked. Make sure you run a check for errors at federal and state level before attempting to file. The app was SUPER slow and no n responsive at times and I had to shut it down and have it recover the file too. Horrible experience but done. What took me minutes in years past took about 5 hours of trial and error.

Thank you! Very Helpful! TT crashed when I tried to file. After many hours and 5 calls to the help desk, no one could resolve my issue. I finally tried to file everything separately, as you suggested. Federal filed. State filed. The issue was with the City forms. This is was the cause of the program to close out at filing. I will just mail my city return.

I can also confirm that it is an issue with the KC e-File submission. I was able to file Federal, KS, and MO without issue after changing the Kansas City RD-109 submission to "Do not e-file now". After submitting Fed/State I attempted to e-File just the KC submission and it immediately crashed at the exact same screen as @cmmullins1s.

Wow, I am having this same problem too. I just read through this whole thing and spent the whole day trying to get a hold of tech support only for them to have me set up to talk to a higher up tomorrow.... I am so glad I clicked on page two to see this. Did this work for you? Can I file both state and federal at the same time BUT not city? Can you let me know what was causing the issue? I dont want to have to lose any information deleting state along the way if i dont have to... I can worry about the city problem later. What did you do? This problem must be only for Kansas city people. Geesh.

YES, it did finally work. Sorry if you saw my earlier reply that it didn't work. In fact it did. Please try again. Finally the state went through. OMG. It was brutal though.

To clarify for future readers: Kansas City filing is causing the glitch. 1. File Federal only. 2. File state only - another contributor stated that they had to file each state separately. 3. Print the KC return and mail. I requested via Facebook that TT please send a note to all Missouri filers with this guidance but doubt this will happen.

Although Kansas is one of the states I prepared, I did NOT attempt to efile it. I only efiled CA, OR and MA (side note i dont get why we are limited to efile 3 states whereas TT Online can do 5).

I have suspicion (but not hard data) that OR was the issue. Or maybe it was KS since when I file CA (my primary residence) it has to file all states I have taxes for... 

So maybe CA was the culprit but not because of CA but because of KS? no idea... but again patience, state by state, and saving multiple backups as I went was key... else the program would lose key data (particularly from W2s) after a crash. After manually re entering twice, I learned to take backups.

last note, I did not have any city taxes in KS since I don't live there. my one employee was actually in Wichita (not Kansas City which someone else mentioned as an issue)

Thanks everyone.  Helping my daughter with her taxes and ran into this problem.  I'm on the KS side and don't have to file the Kansas City MO return, so my Fed and KS returns went off without a hitch.  She lives in downtown KC, so needs to file in MO and KCMO.  Once I clicked the selection to only file the Fed and MO returns, her filings sailed right through.  Thanks for sharing your findings, you saved me a bunch of time and frustration on the Saturday night before filing.  Take Care!

Here it is, Tax Day and I'm having the same problem. I am in Hawaii, not KC.  I'm not even e-filing state tax; I plan to print & mail. But TT crashed while e-filing federal taxes. Now it won't relaunch.

I'm made a back up copy of my tax file as people said it got wiped out during troubleshooting. I did not see any tips in this discussion that will help. I cannot even launch the software now, and I have all s/w updates.

Any ideas? TT has known about this problem for at least a month? How can it not be fixed???

So sorry! I agree - TT should have issued a disclaimer for known issues as a part of their corporate responsibility plan. My data was not wiped out. Are you sure that you looked for your old file? Mine was there - I just had to reopen it. Did you try to file Federal separately from State? To do this, you say YES to Federal and then say NO to filing State. Then go back and say NO to Federal and YES to State. If you are getting a refund - please try this it would be much faster for you! Good luck!

Sorry - I did not see that you cannot launch the software! Did you delete the program and clear the easter egg files? There was guidance in the blog forum on how to do that. I hope this helps! Better to efile if you can!
