When will the 2021 8915-f form be available on Turbo Tax to efile?

I paid the federal tax on the distribution in 2020 so why would I not want to amend 2020 based on everything that I have read.

Didn't you enter your 2020 1099-R and elected to pay the tax over 3 years in 3 equal parts?  If you did then you only paid 1/3 of the tax.

If not and you paid 100% of the tax in 2020 then you can amend 2020 and file the  2020 8915-E form to get a refund of 2/3 of the tax paid.

I haven’t received another 1099 this year so I’m assuming we will use the one from last year. It’s frustrating not knowing though .

You will not receive a new 1099-R for that and a 1099-R is not necessary to file the 2021 8915-F.

When will the 2021 8915-f form be available on Turbo Tax to efile?

I just looked today on the irs.gov website. Yes, there is a page for 8915E draft form. On that page there is a link to irs.gov/latestforms. Then search for 8915F and Inst  8915F.  Both available earlier in Feb 2022. The form clearly states it is to replace 8915 E. I think Turbo tax is using the page with draft form notice when clearly the final form is available. I suspect it’s because they have not programmed it into their software.

TT, Would it be possible to provide access to the new form to complete it manually and incorporate the numbers for tax calculation? The delay for refunds is clearly significant.

My guess is that they are intentionally holding off on the form.. There is a notification stating that their fees go up by $30 after 28FEB2022.... My guess is once the fee goes up they will make the form available shortly after that.... gouging all of those who need the form!!!

You can pay the fees early before you file to lock in the current lower price.

To pay now say you want to print your return and it will make you pay with a credit card.

@hodgy1975 cynical, with no basis in fact.

When will the 2021 8915-f form be available on Turbo Tax to efile?

Exactly the same happened last year.  Since nothing changed in this regard from last year, why isn't the form just the same as last years? It's ridiculous that we have to wait until March to file.

The Form 8915-F is most definitely different than the Form 8915-E which is only used for tax years 2020.

IRS Form 8915-F - https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f8915f.pdf

IRS Form 8915-E (2020) - https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-prior/f8915e--2020.pdf

When will the 2021 8915-f form be available on Turbo Tax to efile?

The IRS combined all single purpose forms 8915 (A-E) into one form that can manage all the prior year 8915 activities.

@cjob Wow that sounds hard for tax software providers, merging all the functions o half a dozen old forms into one new form.

When will the 2021 8915-f form be available on Turbo Tax to efile?

The delay isn't coming from Intuit, it's the IRS.  The form won't be ready from the IRS until March.  Last year the form came out in TT pretty soon after it was released.  I understand the delay last year.  Even if they are merging forms, that still doesn't explain the delay. Collecting and refunding taxes on time is what the IRS exists for.

The form has been published on Feb 4 and TT has had weeks to implement it, with only a promise date of March 31.  Not a single response on this thread either....

@Anonymous @BarryGraham

I'm not defending how long it is taking to roll-out the new software modifications for this.   Last year's 8915E was finalized by the IRS at the beginning of December and TT didn't have it ready until the 3rd or 4th week in February.  So, it took them...2-2.5 months maybe?  This year, the 8915-F wasn't finalized by the IRS until beginning of February.  Blame the delay on the IRS or better yet, blame Congress for their incessant tweaking of everything.  Lol.
