I feel your pain. I am contacting my congressional office in the morning. Very frustrating.
Exactly.
Actually it did warn you. In fact it asked you a question "Did you withdrawal any funds due to disasters in 2017 - 2020" or something to that effect. So did you just blow through your taxes and not pay attention to the questions? Had you clicked yes on this, it would have told you that you needed to wait for the form that hasn't been issued.
If it's available at professional tax services it might be worth going there instead of using TurboTax this year.
I believe Jan 8th it will be available.

The Form 8915-F and the form instructions are not even out of IRS draft mode yet, so it is highly doubtful the form will be included in any tax preparation software at this time
IRS draft forms website - https://apps.irs.gov/app/picklist/list/draftTaxForms.html
Did you mean Feb. 8? I haven’t been able to find anywhere that gives me a date so that would be great!
That’s what I’m wondering too?
Oops. Yea Feb 8. That is what H&R Block told me.

I don't know how they could know when the IRS does not even know.
I did do my taxes quickly, really not that difficult. However, even if I missed it, my information from last year was clearly in the system, the software should have alerted me that I needed to complete that particular section or wait for the form.
I always transfer my information in from year to year. No sooner I answer yes to having a withdrawal from 2017-2020 it gave me the screen missing form can't continue
Even though I allow stuff to be transferred in from previous year I still go through each section manually to ensure I have hit everything
Hi All,
One point of confusion I have is saying that 2020 Coronavirus Distribution and payment schedule are tied to Form 8915-F. The draft of 8915-F clearly says that 2020 coronavirus distribution that occured prior to 12/31/2020 should proceed with filing 8915-E and not 8915-F. I'm just wondering why Turbo Tax cannot proceed with just 8915-E for my situation which is just continuing the repayment of that 2020 distribution. Below from 8915-F for context.
Reporting coronavirus-related and other
distributions for qualified 2020 disasters
made or received in 2020. This form
replaces Form 8915-E for tax years
beginning after 2020. Do not use a Form
8915-F to report qualified 2020 disaster
distributions made in 2020 or qualified
distributions received in 2020 for 2020
disasters.
You will still use 2020 Form 8915-E
to report coronavirus-related and
other qualified disaster distributions
made in 2020 and to report qualified
distributions received in 2020 for qualified
2020 disasters
This is what originally confused me as well. On top of that TurboTax still doesn't bring up the form even though the 8915-E was released last year. The IRS is releasing the forms based on "importance". I guess hard working people who were still hit hard by this pandemic and did what they needed to do to support their families aren't really THAT important. Cheers to living on the back burner of society.
As stated in the Form 8915-F instructions - https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-dft/i8915f--dft.pdf
Purpose of Form
Use Form 8915-F to report:
• Qualified 2021 and later disaster distributions, if any;
• Qualified 2020 disaster distributions made in 2021 or 2022, as applicable (coronavirus-related distributions can't be made after December 30, 2020);
• Repayments of qualified 2020 and later disaster distributions;
• Income in 2021 and later years from qualified 2020 and later disaster distributions; and
• Qualified distributions received in 2021 and later years
And additionally -
• You are repaying, or have income from, a coronavirus-related distribution or other qualified 2020 disaster distribution reported on Part I of 2020 Form 8915-E;
Reporting coronavirus-related and other distributions for qualified 2020 disasters made or received in 2020. This form replaces Form 8915-E for tax years beginning after 2020.
The Form 8915-E was only used for tax year 2020. It will no longer be used for any other tax year.
