The state efile fee for the Desktop program is $20 until March. Then it goes up to $25.
In the Desktop program the state efile fee starts at $20 and goes up to $25 on March 1. So when you paid in June the early price had already expired. $25 is the full price.
@sfvoyage If you did not read through the thread you posted to---just a reminder----you can avoid the state e-file fee if you print sign and mail your state return that you prepared using the CD/download.
Thanks, I'm aware of that, but it's too much printing and hassle to print and mail, so I'll pay the e-filing fee. Too bad the state e-filing is not included.
Thanks, so it's the same fee structure this year as last year.
@sfvoyage The fee for state e-file in the CD/download has been the same for years. Too much hassle? What? It is not a big deal to print a few pages and mail the state return, and it saves you money. I prepare returns for all of my family members and all the state returns are filed by mail.
But if you want to e-file the state, expect it to be more if you wait beyond February. It will cost you an extra five dollars to wait.
Why would there be an expiration date on the cost of e-filing? I have some complex investments for which the 1099s are not even available until the very end of February. I would consider paying this if they made it a flat fee for all the returns done with my copy of the software. I do three separate returns for myself and family members, so paying something like $75 at the individual fee rate is out of the qustion.
But this is actually a moot point for me since I always just mail in the state returns.
@rochrunner TurboTax has early discounts that end at the end of February. The fees for online software go up in March and so do the fees for e-filing state returns when you use desktop software. The state e-file fee increases by $5 in March. You can avoid the state e-file fee altogether by printing and mailing the state return if you used the CD/download.
@rochrunner As you can see---even the prices for the CD/download software go up in March if you purchase from TurboTax.

Thank you for your answer of $19.95.
I think Turbo Tax should be absorbing this fee as they charge for the disc/download.
Getting fed up, try to save money where I can.
Turbo USED to be free with State, then 1 free State e-file, now nothing at all.
Printing and mailing the state return does not work so well for those of us whose returns comprise of 100+ pages.
And it's somewhere between odd and annoying--if you owe money (which, of course, is the best situation because you're not loaning money to the government), you will want to file as late as possible. Although their costs don't increase, Intuit punishes you for doing that.
@SH81 There has always been a fee to efile each state return from the Desktop program (including the first one). And you always got one free state program download in Deluxe or higher. Except if you buy Deluxe in the stores it comes 2 ways, Deluxe with a free state program and Deluxe without state for states that don't have an income tax.
I'm not yet done with my Federal return. I have to file in two states - my Deluxe came with a free state. Can I purchase the 2nd state now prior to completing my return?
Thanks!

Yes you can. Click on Online at the top of the desktop program screen. Click on Download State. The current price for an additional state program using the desktop editions is $40.
