How about DOUBLE? $50 each for Federal and State....that's a bit more than a penny. Going to free file instead and forego the so-called advantages of TT.
Once you begin to enter data that is not supported by the Free Edition, the program will then prompt an upgrade to the most suitable version to handle your specific tax situation. You may review the differences between each in the resources below @bitriode2.
If you want the IRS FREE FILE option ( Turbo Tax & H&R Block no longer participate in the free file alliance ) then you must link in thru the IRS website to get one of the 8 remaining companies in the alliance ... if your AGI is $73K or less you can find a free option for you ... https://www.irs.gov/filing/free-file-do-your-federal-taxes-for-free
not only is service very expensive but after spending $117 on my daughters federal and nys tax return i was un able to e file because tubro tax informed me my daughter w2 box 20 had the wrong entry and that nys would not except it a call to nys tax dept confirmed that the w2 entry was correct. also after 2 years tubro tax misspelled my daughters name, for the price you charge your service is deplorable iam not going to use turbo tax again
Why is it charging me this year when the last 2 years was FREE? I was charge $119. & it said i was self employed
I never was self employed. Others used to be but no more. It won't let me changed it.

SMH, People still complaining about cost. You can get the download version that works on Windows or Mac for $35 around Black Friday on Amazon. You can e-file 5 federal returns for free. States are $25 to efile but you can just print that off and mail it in for free. It costs me $35 to do 5 family returns each year, $7 per return.
Just paid roughly $600 for A family of 4 (4 individual tax returns). There needs to be some type of family discount. I can get my taxes done in person by a tax account rant for this price. Crazy!
@BigCasino11 Sounds like you used the Online web version of Turbo Tax? You should use the Desktop CD/Download program instead.
The CD/Download Desktop you buy and install the program, which can do unlimited returns. The returns are only saved on your computer and can not be accessed from anywhere else. And not saved at Turbo Tax. So Be sure to save Frequently and make backups. You get 5 federal efile for free. In Deluxe and above you get 1 state PROGRAM download to prepare unlimited state returns (in that state). Each state return including the first one is $20 early or $25 to efile or you can print and mail the state for free. The Desktop programs do not have the expert help that is available to add to Online versions.
Desktop also has many other features and advantages over the Online version. You can do more than 1 return. You can see and enter into the actual forms. It has a What-If worksheet. And you can use a lower version because all the Desktop versions have ALL the same forms. You just get more help in the higher versions. In online you have to upgrade to enter certain kinds of income. Like Premier for investments.
And the Desktop program is always available even after the year ends. Which is good if you ever need to amend your return after online website is closed or get audited and need your tax records.
You can buy the Desktop CD/Download program here or look in store like Costco. You can find lower prices and sales.

Thanks for the info Will do this next year. Paid $600 for 4 family members online.
Thanks for the info Wish I knew this a week ago. Been over paying for 4 years now
I agree. I will go elsewhere next year.
The online premier is way too high. My cost to do that with two states was close to $300. I just wiped the info clean and went to TaxAct. I hated to do that bc i love TurboTax. But the prices are outrageous
I switched this year to a different on line service despite being turbotax user for 10 years. I cannot accept paying $119 for just federal tax return and more for the state one on top of that. This year I paid $15 for both tax returns. Feel the difference! Turbotax is losing customers which may never come back! Greed never pays back.
