The solution is for TurboTax to reverse the update, correct the update, or tell users where the update moved our information.
When I call TurboTax I am told this never happens. That is not the case.
This thread will probably disappear, like the other posts with the same complaint.
Please review the information below to determine the best option for your situation.
Find your tax data file (.tax file) in Windows
Find your tax data file in Mac

Finally reached a live person who reviewed and researched and concluded that the recent update was responsible for trashing my data, and I have no option other than to start from scratch. My dilemma is whether to risk using TT again or switch to more reliable software. Will certainly not buy TT again after 10 years of using it.
I don't understand why TurboTax can't solve the problem.
How many more of us will be impacted by this error?
Unless it's all of us, the problem is not going to get fixed.
Has anyone tried a different tax preparation package?
Turbo tax updates move all files. Where?

This thread was created on April 15, 2020 and has over 140 posts....Doubtful it is going to disappear.
This thread is very difficult to find. If I type in "missing " this thread isn't there.
I suspect my data is in the large sch and thp files which I discovered but can't access. I didn't set up those files so the TurboTax updates must have moved all of my data there.
Yes. What is the solution?

I need turbo tax expert to help me with 2020 taxes and 2021 both have w2 and 1099G?
Turbo Tax only helps for the current year. You should go to a local accountant or tax place.
I ran all the searches. I spent an hour and a half on the phone with a tech that knew less about computers than I do. He wanted me to install updates for a printer I no longer have to fix the problem. The files are missing. I ended up taking a day off work and redoing my taxes to meet todays deadline. I have had good luck with turbotax in the past. I purchase both Business and Personal every year. This has caused so many problems and cost so much money for me I am actively looking for an alternate company to use as well as warning friends and family about the issue. Yesterdays phone call with an "expert" was one of the most unproffesional experiences I have had with tech support.
Do you use One Drive? People have been finding them there.
Did you search your whole computer for all files ending in .tax2021? And check the recycle bin and your backups. Check in One Drive, etc. it should be in your Documents then in the Turbo Tax folder. Also if you have multiple Windows user accounts, log into each one and do the search for the *.tax2021 data file from within each one and checking the Recycle Bin in each one.
If you don't have the main .tax file you might have one that starts with a Tilde sign ~ like "~your name.tax2021". That file is if your computer crashes or your real file gets lost or deleted or corrupt so you can restore it.
Here's an idea. Do you still have 2021 installed? Try opening 2021 program and see if you can get your 2021 return to show up in it. Go to FILE - OPEN. Then save it again with a name and place you can find. Go to File - Save As. Then start a new 2022 return and transfer from the 2021 file.
