I'm unable to find info for the Recovery Rebate Credit; it isn't popping up under federal credits as I read that it should. Does anyone know why this is?

To proceed, the main thing to do is enter what has been received. TurboTax will calculate any partial amount.

To see the Recovery Rebate Credit, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the search box and enter stimulus. Click the Jump to link in the search results.
  2. Answer Yes.
  3. At the next screen, Let's double-check the amount you received, answer No to edit the first-round and second-round amounts.
  4. If no stimulus amount was received, enter 0. An amount must be entered in each box. When finished, click Continue.

For more information, see: Recovery Rebate Credit | Internal Revenue Service.

When you have your return opened, search for stimulus and use the Jump to stimulus link to be taken to the questions.   If you search stimulus and you are not taken to the Recovery Rebate section, that means that either:

  • Your adjusted gross income number is too high to qualify for the credit or
  • You can be claimed as a dependent on another taxpayer's tax return.

You can check your dependent status in the Personal information (My Info left side menu) section and you can double check your AGI by previewing your Form 1040 and looking at Line #11.

You were correct. I lowered my Wages and then it popped up. Someone didn't think through this very well. Everywhere else in TurboTax it says, "Let's see if you qualify for this... whatever... " and then it comes back and says that you don't.

I am having the same problem not being able to find the screen to enter the amount. I got a letter (actually 2 of them) from the IRS with the amount of the payment so I assume that I am eligible. I cannot find the eligibility requirements to verify that I can enter the amount that the IRS sent to me.

None of the responses below are of any help.

I am using the disc version that I got from Costco and have updated it when I was prompted to do so.

Anybody have a suggestion for the disc version?

Same here. No prompts at all but when I look at line 30 of the 1040 form it is blank and I cannot enter the number that the IRS sent to me.

Sorry, no help for me since I am using the disc version.

Click on Federal Taxes

Click on Other Tax Situations

Scroll down and click on Done with other

The next screen will have the stimulus question

If it does not then there are only two reasons the page would not be presented in TurboTax -

1.  You are being claimed as a dependent (or)

2.  Your 2021 Adjusted Gross Income is over the maximum for the Recovery Rebate Credit

• Single or married filing separately—$80,000
• Married filing jointly or qualifying widow(er)—$160,000
• Head of household—$120,000

The disc version tab is labeled "Other Tax Situations". The options available when I click on it do not include the "Rebate Recovery Credit".

Thank you. I understand why I am not seeing it now. And thanks for the details of the eligibility requirements.

And the amount you got doesn't go on line 30.  Line 30 is only if you didn't get the full amount or qualify for more.   But the good news is you don't have to pay any back since you don't qualify based on 2021.

Hi,

So if I understand correctly, even though I received a document by the IRS notifying that I have stimulus checks to claim, with a specific amount, it is impossible to claim them on Turbotax if we don't meet the adjusted gross income criteria?

I also still don't have any option displayed about recovery rebate credit or stimulus on my return amendment.

Is it letter 6475?  That is telling you how much they sent you last year for the 3rd Stimulus payment.  If you are married each spouse should get a letter for half.

Double check your bank statements and Check your IRS account (both accounts if married)

Your Online Account | Internal Revenue Service

If the IRS thinks they sent it to you but you didn't get it request a trace for a missing third Stimulus payment

@Edklmn   Is your AGI too high?  It is really based on 2021.  If your 2021 is too high to qualify for the Recovery Rebate Credit it won't ask you for it.  If your AGI is too high you don't have to enter what you got or letter 6475 and you don't have to pay it back and it is not taxable.
