My files say accepted but I got a letter in the mail saying my federal return won't be processed until I send in a 1095?

@rossingram The procedure has changed, you do NOT click on Amend.  So Sign Out of the tax return at the bottom left corner of the online program screen.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for the Form 8962 and Form 1095-A as requested by the IRS for 2019 - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/health-care/help/the-irs-is-requesting-form-8962/01/27409

Form 8962 Premium Tax Credit is required when someone on your tax return had health insurance in 2019 through Healthcare.gov (or a state marketplace) and took the Advance Premium Tax Credit to lower their monthly premium. We'll help you create (or correct) the form in TurboTax.

First, make sure you have a clean copy of your original tax return for your records. If you haven't already saved one, sign in to TurboTax Online and go to Tax Home or go to the Print Center in TurboTax CD/Download to print or save a PDF copy. If you're using TurboTax CD/Download, you may want to create a separate copy of your .tax2019 file by going to File and selecting Save As.

Next, find your Form 1095-A. This won't be in TurboTax. You should have received a paper form in the mail from your marketplace. If you didn't receive a Form 1095-A, sign in to your Healthcare.gov account to download a copy. Select your first name to access your profile and look under Messages to find the notice that you have a Form 1095-A. (The instructions might be different if you used a state marketplace to get your coverage.) Once you've got it, follow the instructions below for your version of TurboTax.

When you're done in TurboTax, you'll need to print out Form 8962 and mail or fax it to the IRS, along with any other items requested in their letter (IRS Letter 12C).

If there's a change to your refund amount or the amount you owe, you'll need to print and send page 2 of your 1040.

Remember:

  • Respond promptly.
    • If you disagree with the IRS, respond with an explanation—and with the item(s) they're requesting.
  • You don't need to complete or send a Form 1040X (amended tax return) to the IRS.
    • Send page 2 of your 1040 only if the refund or owed amount has changed.

TurboTax Online Instructions

  1. Sign into your account with the same user ID you used when you filed your 2019 return.
  2. Scroll down to the Your tax returns documents section and select Add a state.
  3. In the left menu, select Federal.
  4. Select Deductions & Credits from the top menu.
  5. You may need to answer a few preliminary questions to reach the Your tax breaks section. Once you get there, select See all tax breaks.
  6. Select Show more next to Medical.
  7. Select Revisit or Start next to Affordable Care Act (Form 1095-A).
  8. Answer the questions about your health insurance, which includes entering your 1095-A.
  9. Select Tax Tools (found in the left menu), and then select Print Center below it.
  10. Choose Print, save, or preview this year’s return. You may need to enter info about your driver's license or other state ID.
  11. In the TurboTax Print Center, check the 2019 Federal returns box and select the Just my tax returns(s) option. Select View or print forms.
  12. We'll generate a PDF copy of your tax return. Save or print a copy for your records and label it so you know it's the latest version of your taxes. Print a copy of Form 8962 for the IRS. If your refund or balance due has changed, print Form 1040 too.
    • You can check if your refund changed by comparing line 21a on your original 1040 and the one you just printed. If you had a balance due, check line 23.
  13. Send the following to the IRS address or fax number found in your IRS letter:
    • Form 8962, Premium Tax Credit
    • Copy of your Form 1095-A, Health Insurance Marketplace Statement
    • A copy of the IRS letter that you received.
    • Only if the refund or owed amount has changed: also include page 2 of your 1040

A Form 8962 will be created and completed by the TurboTax software if the user has entered a Form 1095-A.  If the Form 1095-A has not been entered then the Form 8962 will not be created.

If you used the TurboTax online editions for the 2019 tax return you will need to download the tax data file from the online account to your computer.  You will need to install the 2019 TurboTax software on your computer to open the 2019 tax data file.

Then follow the procedure in this TurboTax support FAQ for the Form 8962 and Form 1095-A as requested by the IRS for tax year 2019 (Use the procedure TurboTax CD/Download Instructions for Windows) - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/health-care/help/the-irs-is-requesting-form-8962/01/27409

If you purchased one of the 2019 TurboTax online editions you can contact TurboTax support to have them push a 2019 desktop installation file to your download account at no charge - https://support.turbotax.intuit.com/contact/

To access your current or prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the userID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/

Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show.  Click on the Year and Click on Download .tax file

I returned a 1095-a and a 8962. 10-1-20 by fax. sent again by fax on 11-23-20.  Both were complete in sending and have documents showing. If anything else needs to be done please let me know.

These forms were filed and sent out by fax on Oct 1,2020 and i did again today Nov. 23 ,2020. please let me know if anything else needs to be done. I am also going to mail a copy today.

@937cheryl TurboTax will not get any information from the IRS about this.  Once you file your tax return, only the IRS is in control.  No information is given to TT after that.

But ....there have been lots of delays in processing federal returns for 2019.  Sending the IRS multiple copies of the same thing may only lead to more confusion and more delay.

Per the IRS website IRS Operations During COVID-19: Mission-critical functions continue:

IRS operational status and alternatives

Processing Delays for Paper Tax Returns: Taxpayers should file electronically through their tax preparer, tax software provider, or IRS Free File

We’re experiencing delays in processing paper tax returns due to limited staffing. If you already filed a paper return, we will process it in the order we received it.

Do not file a second tax return or contact the IRS about the status of your return.

Stop  sending in the same info again and again ... if you already faxed it twice then stop.  Expect the IRS to take more than 8 weeks to process them so just sit tight until they get to your return again.

There is absolutely no reason for you to send copies of the form 1095-A and Form 8962 again to the IRS.  Sending only one copy is sufficient as any more will only delay the processing or your tax return and any tax refund.

If you have questions concerning your tax return or tax refund contact the IRS and speak with an agent.

Call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040 hours 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
When calling the IRS do NOT choose the first option re: "Refund", or it will send you to an automated phone line.
So after first choosing your language, then do NOT choose Option 1 (refund info). Choose option 2 for "personal income tax" instead.
Then press 1 for "form, tax history, or payment".
Then press 3 "for all other questions."
Then press 2 "for all other questions."
- When it asks you to enter your SSN or EIN to access your account information, don't enter anything.
- After it asks twice, you will get another menu.

Press 2 for personal or individual tax questions.
Then press 4 for all other inquiries
It should then transfer you to an agent.

My files say accepted but I got a letter in the mail saying my federal return won't be processed until I send in a 1095?

I filed 2019 form 1040SR, and I was born 6/15/54. I received medical from the government. I didn't have health insurance marketplace. I got a letter from the IRS say they need a 1095A and form 8962 and I don't need to send 1040X. At I prepared my tax return, TurboTax didn't generated the form 8962. How do I fill out this form?

Thanks

Contact the IRS using the phone number on the notice you received and speak with an agent.  If you did not have health care coverage from one of the state Marketplace Exchanges or from healthcare.gov, the IRS has incorrect information on you for health coverage based on your Social Security number.
