I always use Turbo Tax on a CD. Are CD's going to be available in 2024

What company out there has  a 2024 CD version for us off line  tax return filers?

I always use Turbo Tax on a CD. Are CD's going to be available in 2024

I have refiled back 5 years once! As long as you have the cd you can go back I think it was 7 years? So to heck with this new deal. I bought a cd player when my old laptop died. Easy eh?  Unbelievable that they would forget us off line users! Good bye and good riddance?  I will find one somewhere?

@Jack022 The other tax software companies have eliminated CD's for 2024.  If you read in this thread---it is possible to pay an extra $10 for a CD for TT this year after you have paid for the download and have your license key.

to xmasbaby0 & VolvoGirl...

Kudos to you for what you know! I've read all the posts in multiple threads about the lack of substantive CDs for 2024 tt products. Where did you get the link you're publishing about the $10 cd? I searched the site and cannot find it, and I'm leery about clicking on yours, no offense intended.

To your knowledge, if I pay the extra money for the install CD after buying the download product and license code, what will be on the install CD? I know this may seem like a silly question, but I'm not clear on the concept and want to know so I'm asking: other than install code, will anything be specific to just my tax files once I've used the CD to install? If I used the cd to install, will my particular tax return be stored on that CD for future reference, or not? Or could I also, say, share the install CD with my daughter when she goes to install her very own downloaded product and license code? Will that be prohibited?  I'm no IT wiz but am literate enough to have used the CDs competently in the past. I'm not irate now, just seeking complete info from you, inasmuch as you seem to know.

Thanks for your further help and kind reply!

@questioner77   The install CD just has the program on it.  Nothing about you, your returns or the license code.  Nothing gets saved to the CD.  Your returns will only be on your computer so be sure to make frequent backups.   Don't know if she can use your CD if she has her own License Code.

Why can't you or her install from the Download?  It is exactly the same as the CD program.   When you installed the CD you still had to go online to update it. It's only the method you use to install it. Even when I bought the CD I used the download method to install it. Don't confuse the Download with the Online web version.

VolvoGirl -- thank you for your response.

What I think you're saying is that customers never needed the CDs we purchased in the past -- we could/should have just gone online and downloaded the desktop version all along. I guess TurboTax just provided them for the comfort physical CDs bring. Like another poster, I always have a way to use CDs, no matter what new version of computer I purchase. I see, however, that my past returns are in my online TurboTax account, even though I always bought and used CDs and never imported data from past returns.  I think the CDs helped me because once I inserted the CD and the license code was input, I never needed to actually complete the extra step of going back to log into my online TurboTax account; I could just use the CD whenever. Now, I think the CDs actually automatically linked my computer with each year's program. Is my assumption correct? I only had to log into my account if I wanted to eFile or pay for the state return. Otherwise, in the past I was always able to download, print and  mail returns without having to pay TurboTax again (other than for the original CD) and without having to log onto TurboTax. Guess those days are gone.

I appreciate your letting me know where on the site the link about buying the install CD is located. Thanks again for reading and understanding my post! You helped me.

I always use Turbo Tax on a CD. Are CD's going to be available in 2024

My question is if we, the consumers, want the cd that was included in all prior years, then why didn't Intuit provide it - even if they had to create a different package? It would only cost them a few pennies a copy.

RJS  Level 15    ---   Sorry but this is not accurate.   For about 4-5 years I have purchased TT Deluxe CD from Amazon and never had a problem.  This year (2024) I was informed that the CD was not available, so I purchased the downloadable version.  But what I got was NOT the same thing  "Once it's installed it's exactly the same".   It was very different, and the software refused my Schedule D transactions.   What did I download from the Amazon website???    I wanted the CD version BUT what did I download?    I obviously didn't get what I wanted.   After reading all the complaints from other confused customers, I am guessing I wound up getting the online version instead (which doesn't accept Sch D transactions).      This version that Amazon provided does not do what I need it to do!               What do I do now???     I have spoken to an Amazon Rep as well as  AI Jane (AI computer).    I would like to complete my Fed & State tax return before APRIL 15.....       HELP!

@patc135 Every version of the desktop download has all the forms and all the schedules.   I wonder if you strayed into using online software instead of the desktop download.

We see people get confused and they keep logging in to online software which will require them to pay at the end.   You need to use the desktop software.   One way to tell if you are using the right software---your tool bar.   Online software has the toolbar in a black vertical column on the left side of the screen.   Desktop software has the tools up on the top of your TT screen.

You appear to be posting from online software instead of the desktop CD/download software that the license code is for.  If you are using online, you are using the wrong program.  You need to switch to the desktop software to get what you paid for.  You have to download it, update it and open it up from your own hard drive to use it.

After you have purchased the 2024 desktop download  and have your license code, if you want a CD you can order one.

Isn't this theft then? Since I can be audited for up to 10 years after I've submitted my taxes, and we are talking about AY2024 due in a few days, I subtract 10 years and that means 2014, then how can the software that developed my taxes NOT allow me to use the software for the same 10 years?  I've got TT installed on this PC for every year since 2020, and it requires installing the updates, no option to bypass.

Intuit could post a software crack for years 2019 to 2014. Or I could pursue class-action legal recourse today to prevent this theft.... hmmm, lets think about that for a moment.... more $$$,$$$ than whatever I could be penalized by the IRS, so I throw up my hands and say "$&(W_)!".

And to think that by buying the top of the line TT software was going to provide any kind of safety or longevity shows how much American's have a perceived notion of fairness or reasonableness that is so blatantly false.  SHAME ON YOU INTUIT.
