You have to start a new account.
You can use the same e-mail for up to 5 members, but you each need your own Username and Password.
In the Online Account? Online is only good for 1 return per account. But you can use the same email address for 5 accounts. How to start another return in the Online version
Or if you have the Desktop CD/Download program installed on your computer you can do multiple returns. Go up to File-New.
The first return will be saved.
Thank U KrisD15 for responding so quickly. I've done the other family member's Returns using Turbo Tax for years, this is the 1st time that I will be doing 2 more Returns for 2 other family members here. I'm at a loss as to how to start the new acct. Could you please explain a little more into this? (Not quite drawing but a little close to it. LOL) Thank U kindly.
If you need to do more than 1 return you should consider using the Desktop CD/Download program. It can do unlimited returns and efile 5 federal for free.
Hello VolvoGirl, Thank U for responding as well. I have the software on my desktop as an u/l from the CD. I had started on family member #1's Return and need addl. time for some other info to come in. I wanted to start on family member #2's Return and when I click on New File, it takes me back to #1's file. Must I u/l the CD again in order to give it the Username and different passcode?
No it should let you start a new return. You don't use a url or go online. Are you on Windows or Mac? Did you install the program from the CD or did you go online and download the program? Did you enter the 14 digit License Code? That is new this year. If you are on a Mac take the CD out of the drive.
First Let's make sure you are using the Desktop program installed on your computer.
Do you see a FORMS button in the upper right on Windows or upper Left on Mac? That is the CD/Download Desktop program. And the menu items go across the top in a Blue bar like Federal, State, Review, File
Or do you show a black bar on the left side with Tax Home, Previous Taxes and menu items like My Info, Tax Tools that is the Online version. If you go to a website where you have to enter your User ID and password to open your return, you're using TurboTax Online.
Here's a screen shot from my desktop program. Does yours look like this? When you go up to FILE - NEW you get a box listing your current tax returns in it. Ignore those and go down and click on Start a New Return. Something very important is if you are doing another return for someone that has the same first name (like a father and son) you need to save each return with a different name or the second person's return will overwrite the first one and to tell them apart. So you first might have to open a return and save it with another name, go up to FILE - SAVE AS
Hello VolvoGirl, Thanks so much for responding again. Yes to that's where I'm at on this. I'm on Windows, I installed from a CD and once I click on Start a New Return it offers me to Save or Cancel and I've tried all options to see if it'll go into the next mode in order to start a New Return. Should I reinstall or contact Tech support? I just thought I wasn't doing something correctly.
Hello VolvoGirl, THANK YOU KINDLY for your help!!! I went in one more time after sending you that last msg and clicked on Continue and it did go thru to start another Return!!! Was able to start it and save it so I am on my way to do this. U ALL ROCK!!! Thanks again. Have a GREAT one!!! <3<3<3
You're very welcome. Thanks for posting back and letting me know you got it.
Oh when you clicked on New Return and it asked you to Save or Cancel that was for the current return you had open. So you should save that one unless you already saved it or don't want to save anything you entered on it since the last time it was saved. In Windows it doesn't automatically save. You have to select to Save. So save often while you are working in a return. Although it should ask you to save when you exit or start a new return.
And like I might have said before... be sure to save each return with a different name you can tell apart. So you might want to do a FILE - SAVE AS to give it a name you can find again.
