How do I access a prior year return?

You’ll need to register first if you don’t already have access to your prior year returns under Your tax returns & documents as you sign in to TurboTax.

Before starting, make sure you’re using the same TurboTax account (with the same username) as previous years.

To access:

1. Choose TurboTax Free Edition when starting if you haven't already done so.
2. Follow the screens and provide some personal info. 
3. When you’ve reached the Personal info summary screen, select Continue.
4. Then, select File in the left-hand menu (this is just a step in order to register, you won’t actually be filing).
5. Continue until you get to Review your order and select Start.
6. Select View payment options.
7. Then continue until you get to the registration screen.
8. Enter your info and select Register, then Continue.
9. Go to Tax Home in the left-hand menu.
10. Under Your tax returns & documents, go to Download/print return (PDF) (select Show if not visible).

You need to file this year's taxes to check last year's taxes?

No you do not ... see the instructions above.

I'm in the same situation. I need to see a previously year's pdf, but the instructions say I need to register first, which means I need to file this year's taxes, which I cannot do until I can see the previous year's taxes... *pulling out hair*

UPDATE: I figured it out.  You have to actually "file" before you are really ready to file. So, basically "file" does not mean file, it just means register...one would think this would have come up as something that needs to be fixed in this app a very long time ago.

So you are NEVER in this situation again simply download and save a PDF (with and without the worksheets) & a .taxfile to your computer (AND save it to a removable storage medium for safe keeping) before the season ends in October.  This way you have all the control and are not at the mercy of others where the rules change from year to year.

I did my taxes last year in 2018 but I no longer have my debit card wat can I do to receive my check

What can you do ? 

If you are required to file a 2019 return :

1) file the 2019 return asap

2) wait for the IRS portal to open later this month to update your DD info.

3) if your address is incorrect on the 2018 return then mail in a form 8822 asap

If you are NOT required to file a 2019 return and you are NOT receiving SS benefits :

if you are using this process to use the download file to upload into a turbotax download product you must download the .tax file NOT the PDF file since tt download will not recognize the pdf!
