How do I edit this line on the 1040 using the turbo software?

Line 77 on the Fed 1040 form.  Allows to apply refunds to the next year.  How do I get my form to show this in the software?  I know i can print the form out and manually enter the info.  But I plan to import that tax year into the next software with it showing applied.  Thank you for any assistance.  Jon

How do I edit this line on the 1040 using the turbo software?

There is not a Line 77 on a Form 1040 for tax years 2020, 2019 or 2018.

On the tax year 2017 return there is a Line 77 for applying  the 2017 tax refund to the 2018 taxes.

If you are completing a 2020 tax return and want to apply the 2020 tax refund to the 2021 taxes -

To add, change or delete a current year federal tax refund to next year's taxes before you file your tax return -

  • Click on Federal Taxes (Personal using Home and Business)
  • Click on Other Tax Situations
  • Under Additional Tax Payments
  • On Apply Refund to Next Year, click on the start or update button

Or enter apply federal refund to next year in the Search box located in the upper right of the program screen. Click on Jump to apply federal refund to next year

The amount applied to next years taxes will be shown on Form 1040 Line 36

Edit reply.  The 2017 Form 1040 does have a Line 77.  I was looking at a Form 1040A for 2017.

How do I edit this line on the 1040 using the turbo software?

In 2018 did you request an extension to file your 2017 return?   If you did not do that, then you have already forfeited the refund you are seeing on the 2017 form, and that refund will not be applied to your 2018 tax.

If you did get an extension, you are okay until October 15, 2021.
