Why did it reject? The email should say.
a) go into TurboTax. It may tell you why a return got rejected. (For example - mistyping a date of birth; TurboTax will tell you if that was the reason).
b) If you filed late last year, and it hasn't been processed for whatever reason, then the AGI for 2021 (when efiling) should be entered as zero instead of what's on your taxes. That is a subtle reason for a rejection (and it took me a bit to find that answer on TurboTax when I kept getting rejected over and over).
Hope this helps. Good luck!
Mine also got rejected for the first time ever. It said that they couldn't identify me because of the AGI from last year. However, I checked it multiple times. The only problem I could see if that there was nothing after the decimal so I entered the zeroes. I'm hoping this does the trick. I hope yours has been resolved.
@Jekins ENTER 0 FOR AGI. The IRS took a long time last year to process 2021 returns so the AGI didn't get entered in time. Especially if you mailed it. That works for most people. See,

If you can’t get it to efile you will have to print and mail it.

Be sure to attach copies of your W2s and any 1099s that have withholding on them. You have to mail federal and state in separate envelopes because they go to different places. Get a tracking number from the post office when you mail them for proof of filing.
Thank you for the fast reply. I will keep watching to see if they send it back as a rejection in time for me to e file again. Dang it. I appreciate your quick answer and that you're here to help us stragglers. I didn't know about the AGI needing to be zero. That's a nuisance.
I wanted to update everyone and add that mine got rejected twice with making sure my AGI was the correct number from last year's taxes but after the second time, I followed the advice of VolvoGirl and put in zero as the AGI. This time it was accepted. If anyone else is having this problem then that is possibly why. Thank you so much for your swift reply to the query here and for your knowledgeable answer!
You received an email that we cannot see that tells you why your tax return was rejected.
Some rejected returns can be fixed and re-filed. Some have “un-fixable” reasons for the rejection and have to be mailed instead. What is the rejection code or rejection message?
If it was rejected for AGI—-be aware that many 2021 returns took so long for the IRS to process that your 2021 AGI might not be in the IRS system. Try using zero instead.
If filing with zero is rejected then file again but select the option that you did not file last year. The IRS does not see that question and it will allow you to e-file with no AGI question.

If that does not work and you still cannot e-file, then print, sign, and mail your tax return.
Mine also got returned, and I cannot fix it. It’s been returned three times already. It says that the primary independence Social Security numbers are the same and they’re not. It’s saying that I didn’t click a box, but there’s no box to click I’ve gone over it Multiple times. Please help!
error they sent says exactly this:
A dependent SSN In the return Must not be the same as the primary or spouse SSN on another return with ‘PrimaryClaimasDependentlnd’ or ‘SpouseClaimasDependentlnd’ is not checked.
It means your dependent's ssn was used on someone else's return. You can't efile it again. You have to print and mail it now and let the IRS determine if you can claim them. Did your dependent file their own return and didn't check the box that someone could claim them? Or it might be a mistake on someone's return that they typed their ssn wrong and accidentally got your dependent ssn.
I had the same message, I realized I didn’t check my daughter’s box that we could claim her. So I went & amended hers. Waited till it was accepted and mine keeps rejecting!!??? So frustrated!!
@Bap1Tap1 Amending her tax return will not enable you to e-file this year. Her SSN is in the system and anyone who tries to e-file with her SSN on their return is blocked from e-filing now. Even waiting for the IRS to process the amended return will not help.
The only way you can file and claim your daughter is by mailing your return. Print it, sign and date it in ink and mail it.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
Sorry you will have to print and mail your return even if she amends her return. So you don't have to wait to mail yours.
If your dependent's SSN is on another return you have to file by mail.
