Yes, just updated my turbo tax (california) and both (federal and state) were able to file. Phew. Glad it got fixed.
Same problem here with SC return. Says to update but all updates are done. Very frustrating!!
Does not work! What should have taken a short amount of time has turned into hours. Every year there is some problem like this. Have tried all the suggestions, manual updates, and still will not efile. Validation error.
Are you only having problems with your state?
Just tried to submit fed and state last night. Got this same error. Was on the phone with TT support for a while last night. My computer needed updates. They thought that might be the issue. I did the updates, but didn't help. Reading stuff on here, I hadn't even thought about trying to only submit fed. I did that this morning, and it went through. I then tried state (Ohio), and got the validation failed error :( Still waiting to see/read how to fix this. I've already paid the $25 required to submit state electronically.
Ok, so now go through these steps and you should be able to file your state. State install/e-file update loop: State not installed after installation or TurboTax needs to update...
It's not giving me the option to "Run As Administrator."
I had the downloaded version (purchased from Amazon). Is the 2nd option even valid? If so, do I lose all of the info I've completed for 2024?
All windows and turbo tax updates are current. If I uninstall and reinstall the software, will the 2 returns that I have completed and paid the e-filing fees be intact? I do not want to have to start over.
The South Carolina individual forms are not yet final, but that isn't stopping the e-filing according to your software which verified completion of the SC returns and charged my credit card for the e-filing fees.
Yes I agree. SC for me.
I agree. I believe I am done.
ME too
I save my TurboTax return (file) in a Taxes folder that I created on my laptop so it's not saved within the TurboTax program. (Open your return in TurboTax and choose Save As and select the folder location that you prefer.) I have been saving like this for so long that I don't remember if TurboTax creates a folder separately from the program for their default location.
Some people have had success by just temporarily turning off their virus protection and then updating successfully without having to uninstall.
It was specific to California State Return.
California return program files updated overnight.
This had nothing to do with the saved file, it had to do with how it transmitted to California.
TurboTax individual return saved file is a complete contained unit.
It doesn't matter what folder it's saved in.
The default folder is Documents/TurboTax.
It's been the same location for 20 years.
I am having the same issue as of 03/06/2025 - trying to e-file Federal & NJ 1065 forms. Is there a fix in the works? I tried all of the trouble shooting suggestions. I also uninstalled and reinstalled the TT software - still to no avail! Repeated all of the steps with Anti-virus disabled, still no luck.
I Removed/Uninstalled and re installed it and that worked. I was able to get through and file the return with no Validation Errors.
