Filing form 1065 electronically (Federal & NJ 1065). Same problem here. I uninstalled, reinstalled etc. I also installed (from scratch) to a different computer that had no Intuit product on it whatsoever. Same result: "FAILED VALIDATION Error Code 54". This morning, I tried again, same error message. I then electronically filed the Federal 1065 by itself and it went through. I waited until I received confirmation from IRS that the federal 1065 was accepted and filed NJ-1065. Result: same error message. Based on other postings on this subject, it seems that the problem is being caused by something in the State return portion of the software. Maybe Intuit can check the software code for the State products to finally fix this issue in advance of the tax return filing deadline.
I am using Turbotax Business for LLCs in California. I was able to get beyond the Failed Validation Error #54 by turning off Norton Virus Protection. Launching Turbotax again. It then found an update, which once processed, allowed the electronic filing to go through. I hope this is helpful to someone.
Turbo Tax Link Tried CatinaT1's suggested fix at for NC state return and it did not work. After running the TTCleanStates app as directed, a "patch" installed when I restarted TurboTax, but I still got the FAILED_VALIDATION error when attempting to transmit NC state return. The error still claimed there was an update available, but Check for Updates still claimed "Your software is up to date."
I solved this issue by first efiling the Federal 1065 alone, which went through without any problem. Once the federal was accepted, I went to the turbotax website (I had help from an Intuit tech person who guided me to the file download page. I was unable to find it on my own) and downloaded the State software, installed it and was able to transmit the State (NJ in my case) without issue. For some reason, even though I (and everyone here) downloaded and installed all of the updates, the State updates don't seem to be replacing the previous state version, hence the "software is not up to date" error message.
Today (3/12/25) I restarted TurboTax and it installed an update for NC state taxes dated 3/6/25, which was four days before I tried the TTCleanStates app. This time I was able to successfully transmit my NC state return. I do not know whether my earlier efforts to update TurboTax and the NC state portion helped or whether it would have worked by now regardless.
Believe me, you're not alone. I'm in CA and trying to submit both Fed and State, indeed I have a same issue. Here are what I did
Hopefully, it helps.
No update, use MacOS 13 or above
Recommend to use MacOS 13 or above
I am still having this same issue in Virginia. Was finally able to file my federal returns separately last week, but still getting the same error message downloading the manual update. So frustrating... I cannot believe there is not more help or a fix from Intuit for this by now. It is 4/11.
