Question

Easy Step failed when I attempted to enter my Social Security data. All other Easy Step data inputs worked prior to this.

Easy Step failed when I attempted to enter my Social Security data.

Screen bumped back to "Your 2024 Income Summary" window.

Easy Step fails at this point.

Selecting "Update" does not work. Screen bumps back to "Your 2024 Income Summary" window.

I have used Easy Step all the way to "Retirement Plans and Social Security" with no problems.

I cannot enter my Social Security data. Selecting Save does not help.

Restarting TurboTax does not help. All other data entry using Easy Step prior to attempting to enter Social Security data worked OK.

This is a software issue with TurboTax.

First try logging out of the program and logging back in. You can also clear your cache and cookies.

Please ‌ for instructions on how to clear your cache. Please click here for instructions on clearing your cookies.

You may also try using another browser.

Make sure to run all updates to your TurboTax Program. Click here for information on manually updating TurboTax.

Then try to enter your Form SSA-1099 by going straight to the SSA--1099 screens as follows:

    1. Click on the search icon in the upper right of your TurboTax screen.
    2. Type "SSA-1099" in the search box
    3. Click on the link "Jump to SSA-1099"

Your screens will look something like this:

Click here for "Where do I enter an SSA-1099, SSA-1099-SM, or SSA-1099-R-OP1?"

I purchased Turbo Tax for the "Easy Step" feature. I am not a tax expert, far from it.

I was eventually able to manually get through the process, without Easy Step.

I would like to know when Turbo Tax is going to release a software update.

    @jraycjay

This is a LONG RUNNING problem with the Desktop software.

IF...if you prior year tax file had any "Supporting Details" on any of the SS worksheet lines, then the Easy Step  this year, kicks you back to the menu. ....for this year's attempted entry of SS...(and also of some other forms, like Property Taxes., if you used any Supporting Details on those other forms too)

For your SS entry, the easiest procedure would have been to just delete the entire SS worksheet in Forms Mode...then returned to the interview, and the Easy Step into the SS entries should be restored....but too late for you now, since you've apparently fixed it directly on the worksheet in Forms Node.

    ___________________

IF you did get it to work in Forms Mode already, by entering your data directly on the SS worksheet, then you probably did find at least one of your entries had a Supporting Details (SD) worksheet attached to it..

    ________________

If you don't need that SD worksheet anymore...maybe it would be a good idea to get of it...in case TTX doesn't fix it for next year too.

They do seem to have ignored it entirely this year, if it's still causing problems...

You may be able to enter your SSA-1099 as follows:

    1. Click on the search icon in the upper right of your TurboTax screen.
    2. Type "SSA-1099" in the search box
    3. Click on the link "Jump to SSA-1099"
    4. Follow your TurboTax screens and answer all follow-up questions

Your TurboTax screens will look something like this:

Check box "Description of Amount in Box 3" for the years:

Click here for "Where do I enter an SSA-1099, SSA-1099-SM, or SSA-1099-R-OP1?"
