The IRS has just opened on January 26 to accept/reject e-files.   Any returns that have been accepted before today have been accepted in small random "test" batches.  Everyone else has been waiting on the servers in "pending."   Start watching your emails now that the IRS is open.  Many e-files are on the servers so it could still take a day or two.

When you e-file your return you will get two emails from TurboTax.  The first one will say your return has been transmitted; the second one will tell you the IRS has accepted  or rejected your federal e-file.  If you filed a state return, there will be a third email (usually a day or two later) that tells you if the state e-file was accepted or rejected.

Check your e-file status:

This is a public Internet forum--a user community for the TurboTax consumer tax products, not for ProSeries tax preparers.   Do not post any personal info here.    I just looked at the Intuit Accountants pro website (which offers Pro Series) and found this help article on how to reach support for Pro Series:

My tax returns keep getting rejected and I need help fixing it

You received an email that we cannot see that tells you why your tax return was rejected.

Some rejected returns can be fixed and re-filed.  Some have “un-fixable” reasons for the rejection and have to be mailed instead.

What is the rejection code or rejection message?

If it was rejected for AGI—-your 2024 AGI might not be in the IRS system if you filed late.   Try using zero instead.

If filing with zero is rejected then file again but select the option that you did not file last year.  The IRS does not see that question and it will allow you to e-file with no AGI question.

If that does not work and you still cannot e-file, then print, sign, and mail your tax return.

I’m married but my wife and I live in different states. I have a dependent that lives with me and she has a dependent that lives with her. Can we both claim head of household

Chat with a rep

@user17696228201 No.  If you claim them as a dependent then they cannot claim someone as a dependent on their tax return.  If you do not claim them as a dependent you are not eligible for Head of Household.  If they do not provide over one-have cost to maintain the home, they are not eligible for Head of Household.

@user17696228201   Do you mean your wife has a dependent that lives with her?  Yes she can file Head of Household too.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for how to request a refund - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/intuit-refunds/request-refund-turbotax-p...

To complete and file a 2024 tax return using TurboTax you would need to purchase, download and install on a personal computer one of the 2024 desktop editions from this website - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/

A 2024 tax return can only be printed and mailed, it cannot be e-filed using TurboTax.
