And paying over the phone won't do me any good if I can't proceed to the next screen to even enter a confirmation number.
And I can't file an extension for my state taxes. It doesn't give me the option. So there is really no solution for my situation being provided.
This is beyond ridiculous... I spent hours online filing out the return, only to get "Hmm... it looks like we've hit a slight snag"?! And then get caught in and endless loop? It's April 14th!! I've been a customer for 7 years, and never had this much trouble filing anything. This appears to be a long term issue, nobody has fixed it, none of the support advice works... the only thing I'm able to do now is file an extension - for $137. Am I going to be reimbursed for this?
I tried changing my zip code to the 5 digit version but turbotax keeps changing it back to the 5+4.
Same boat, I am not filing all these extensions because their software sucks
@mx1441 If you still experience the issue, please call Customer Service and tell them you have a "block payment issues, possibly due to billing or an invalid license" and the agent should be able to help you. Here is how you reach customer service: Turbo Tax Customer Service
Here is an FAQ: How to File an Extension
Thank you! What you outlined is exactly what I had to do. Call TurboTax and ask for a new product license code to be issued for Desktop Business and Home then enter that under the Help drop down menu>switch product>activate new product. TT restarts and you have to enter the new license code. After that you can proceed to the payment portal to pay to efile for state(s) without an issue. For unknown reasons, my original TT license code was canceled!
Omg, it’s happening to me right now and all I was told is to call billing department. But they are closed. I am not even trying to pay, I don’t owe taxes. And I’m due a refund. I have filed an extension. The support says there’s nothing he can do even if it is Oct 15 and it’s the last day to file.
Were they able to reimburse you?
After multiple hours trying to figure out what was wrong and 5 or 6 calls to the help line, I had no success in solving the problem. Finally, one of the these customer responses said to pull down the "Help" note on the screen and pay by phone. I called the number and was told by the person that the forms for my state were not yet ready and that I should wait until Feb 13, 2025 and then to try again.
Very frustrating that none of the operators on help lines could have told me that and that Turbotax couldn't have given me the information instead of the "Hmm...it looks like we've hit a snag, try again" BS. Hopefully next week I can e-file. If I continue to have problems, perhaps the solution is H&R Block software after more than 20 years with Turbotax.
Were you able to file your state tax? I have been getting the same message today and have been unable to file my CA state tax return. I don't know what I should do next. I have no problem filing the federal tax return. Thank you.
If you get the 'hit a snag' message trying to pay for your state Efile, it may be a connectivity issue. A billing window should open, where you enter your credit card details.
If that's not happening, here's How to Turn Off Anti-Virus Programs to improve your connection with the billing server. Or go Back a couple screens and re-try. That worked for me.
If you're using TurboTax Online, clear your Cache and Cookies first.
Posted from a few years ago. Sucks that TurboTax STILL has this problem. Seriously?!!
Hopefully it still fixes THEIR crappy glitch.
“Using the installed PC desktop edition of Turbotax 2023, I was getting the "hit a snag message" trying to pay the $25 state file fee. I would press the pay by credit card, it saved my return and the next window was the "snag" window. Didn't even get to the point of entering CC data. Ran through the gambit of changing browsers, clearing browser history, check for Turbotax updates, turn off Windows defender and firewall, used a hardwire connection instead of wifi - nothing worked and stumped the panel.
I am using W10 and it was up to date with all current updates.
Although the "Hang on..." is a very passive and cute message - it is not very practical for troubleshooting.
Solution: While waiting on the phone I was playing with the Turbotax menu (couldn't handle the elevator music any longer) and I stumbled on to how to pay by phone.
Drag down Help/Pay by Phone/State eFile.”
