1099 MISC

How can I create and file 1099s for my employees and/or contractors?  I have downloaded the 2019 home and business but the portal to create and file the 1099 takes me to the 2020 1099 NEC.

The Form 1099-NEC is now used for reporting payments to contractors and other self-employed individuals.  The Form 1099-MISC is no longer used for those type of payments.

An employee does not receive a 1099-NEC.  You should be reporting an employee's wages, federal taxes withheld, Social Security, Medicare wages and taxes on a W-2.

2019 ???   Oh you are really late ... expect penalties.  You cannot use the portal since it only goes to the 2020 forms ... instead try  the built in W2/1099 Reporter in Windows Home & Business program  ... You have to print and mail them.

  1. Launch TurboTax Home & Business.
    • If you're already working on a tax return, you'll need to close it. Select New Tax Return from the File menu in the upper-left corner, then answer Yes to save the return you currently have open.
  2. Select the Prepare W-2/1099.
  3. On the next screen, click Choose Desktop and follow the instructions.

Do you have Home & Business for Windows or Mac?  Mac only uses Quick Employer Forms Online which is only for 2020 now. If you have Windows Home & Business you can still create them on your computer.  Windows has 2 options....Quick Employer Forms and a built in W2/1099 program.
