Look at the top your 1040, where the child is listed.
If the box for "Qualifies for Child Tax Credit" is checked, you claimed that child as a dependent.
TurboTax asks if you have an agreement and Form 8332 with the non-custodial parent. If you select "Yes" it asks if the other parent is claiming the child this year.
This is a little better screen shot. Does he show up at all?
here we go again. the IRS says the custodial parent gets to claim the child. It doesn't care what the courts order. so for your ex, who is the non-custodial parent, to claim the child under the tax laws, you must furnish her with form 8332. you don't have to give her the form, but then she can't claim the child under the tax laws so you likely would find yourself before a judge reading you the riot act.
if you want to comply with the court order, you would need to amend your return after it is fully processed and provide your ex with the tax form. sorry to say she, if she wants to claim the child, she can no longer e-file no matter what you do,
For context we have four kids, our decree said I claim the girls and she claims the boys. So I think I understand better, I think what happened is that I got the earned income credit for Charles but I did not claim him as a dependent. She is livid because she wants the earned income, but he lived with me the entire year. Here are documents to maybe help me figure this out?
