Hi,
I e-filed using TurboTax Premier desktop edition and my submission has been accepted by the IRS (the IRS2GO app shows a status of Received Return). When I check the status of the submission in TurboTax, I get a message that my return has not been filed.
Every time I open the tax file, I get a pop-up message saying that I have paid for my e-filing and that I should remember to file my taxes before the deadline...
When I call the Intuit support line to check on the status of my e-filing, I am prompted to enter my SSN and my 5-digit zip code. Unfortunately, I have a 6 digit zip code (foreign address) and I am unable to proceed further.
Is this a known issue?
Is there a workaround to fix the above status issue when viewing the tax file. I need to e-file an amended return and am unable to do so given the above error.
I would appreciate any advice you have for me.
Thanks.

To clarify, did you receive an email from TurboTax confirming the transmission and acceptance of your tax return?
Did you receive a notification from TurboTax stating your return has been accepted?
Please see My return got accepted. What happens next? for more information.
HI Michelle,
Thanks for your note.
I checked my email - yes, I received an initial email from TurboTax with a Transmission Confirmation message, followed by emails stating that my Federal and State returns were accepted.
I can also track the same using the IRS2GO app.
Here's the odd part - when I look at the Electronic Filing History in TurboTax, I see this (in this order):
Electronic Filing History
The Intuit Electronic Filing Center did not find any record with this Social Security Number or Employee
Identification Number

March 23, 2022 03:20 AM PST Pennsylvania Individual
Your return has been received and will be forwarded to the taxing agency at the appropriate time.

I could let things be, but I have the need to amend my taxes and e-file the amendment - when I attempt to do this, I keep getting the message that I have never e-filed my taxes to start with.
Any advice to get past this error will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
It would be best to wait to amend until both the state and federal return have been processed. You can track the federal refund here, and you can track the state refund here.
Also, are you filing using the desktop or online version?
If you are using the online version, you can contact us by phone here, and we can email you a confirmation of the filed return. @RR2021
Many thanks for your response.
I can track the status of my e-filing using the IRS2GO app - which works great.
My problem is that I cannot e-file an amended return using TurboTax (desktop) - due to the fact that, for some reason, the desktop app thinks that I have not e-filed.
Any suggestion on getting past this e-filing status error as I would like to e-file my amended return (after the original return is processed).
Thanks.
Please try to update the software by following the instructions here, and this should resolve the issue.
Please let us know if we can assist you further.
Thank you very much for your suggestion. Unfortunately, the solution does not work. Here's what I did.
Downloaded the super-patch from the link you shared and installed it. Restarted TurboTax and checked for updates - there was one update from 3/31/2022 that I installed as well.
Post the updates, I opened the file that I had saved after e-filing and checked the Electronic Filing History option in the menu - I see the same old message as outlined below:
Electronic Filing History

======
Now when I try to check the status again from within the TurboTax app - I get the below message:
You Haven't E-Filed a Tax Return Yet
We notice you haven't e-filed any of your returns.
If you're just looking around, that's OK. We'll see you back here after you've filed.
Think you've already filed? Select Continue and we'll double check if you have or not.
=======
Clicking on the Continue button takes me back to the e-Filing page. Here's the odd part - when I check on the Electronic Filing History page now, nothing shows up.
=======
Any other suggestions for me to try out?
Many thanks.
The only way to submit an amended return is to mail it. If you need to enter additional information, delete something, or change something on the the tax return you already filed, you have to wait until your return has been fully processed, then you can prepare an amended return, called a 1040X. You cannot e-file a 1040X. It must be printed, signed and mailed to the IRS.

After you print, sign and mail your amended return—1040X— to the IRS wait about 3 weeks and then you can begin checking on it at the IRS website. Be aware that it can take at least 3-4 months for an amended return to be fully processed (or sometimes even longer.)

Thanks for your response.
You have shared a link for tax year 2016.
Per the Intuit website (https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/tax-return/help/how-do-i-amend-my-2021-return/00/2544441), I should be able to e-file a 2021 amended 1040-X. Attached below is an excerpt for your reference:
Point 9.
9. You can e-file your amended federal return in TurboTax, but only some states allow you to e-file your amended state return. We’ll walk you through the filing options for your state at the end of the amendment process.
There seems to be a bug in the product where the status for an e-filed return is not showing up accurately and this is preventing me from e-filing the amended return.
Any suggestions on resolving this issue will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
@CarissaM Hope you are well. Any other suggestions. The latest patch did not help and my 2021 e-filing has been accepted and approved by the IRS now. I would like to e-file the amendment in the coming days.
TurboTax (Premier-PC version) still says that I have not e-filed and that I need to first e-file my return. My prior message includes additional detail.
How do I escalate this bug?
Many thanks for your help.
It would be best to call and speak with us by phone by following the instructions here. As this will allow us to look into this further. RR2021
Thanks - I tried that and gave up after a long wait... will try again this week.
There seems to be a simple bug - when you have a zip code longer than 5 digits, the e-filing status does not update correctly (within the app and outside) and causes the whole process to fail.
There is also a second bug, where the desktop app, does not ask you if you have filed the taxes - when you begin the process to amend. This causes issues with the way the 1040-X gets populated...
I wish there was an easier way to submit a bug report.
Thanks to @CarissaM @SForrestLO @MichelleLO for sparing the time to try and help.
My daughters are living in the Netherlands and have the same problem with the status of their accepted e-file.
Why is this bug not repaired already?
My youngest daughter called the Intuit help desk. After hours they recognised the problem and promised to inform the programmers department. After 2 updates of the program the bug still exist. Is the group of Americans living abroad not important enough to make a product without bugs? Is there anybody out there who knows more about this?
This problem has still not been solved by Intuit !!
