Have you paid and/or filed your tax return?
If you have not paid and/or filed your tax return. you may be able Select Tax Tools from the left menu, then Clear & Start Over in a new free tax return.
I have already filed but now realize that it should have been free. I would like a refund.
There is no place to file a complaint and no refund. When the upgrades happened you were told and approved. by clicking to continue. If you clicked through without reading the screens that is not a reason for refunding.
The agent that I spoke to on the phone advised me to file a dispute with the credit card company. I feel like the website is misleading and did not show visibility for the free option. Is my only option to file a dispute?
Does a misleading website qualify for a refund? There was no option for free service leaving me to believe that it wasn’t available. I didn’t know that the free option route was hiding.
Millions of people are able to understand the website.
Millions of people are over paying due to a misleading website specifically designed to make you think that you have to use the options which require a fee. Why do you have to choose the tax tools in left menu in order to switch to the free edition?
Go to this TurboTax website for the Free online edition - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/free-edition.jsp
That's exactly what I thought I saw a TurboTax was supposed to be free but that's not even the issue the issue is I found my tax in January I'm just now getting a response due to your era TurboTax made and now I got to pay you because every time for almost 6 months my account my income tax was rejected on your error your information you're put in so I advise anybody that used TurboTax don't do it I have never experienced this and all my 50 something years and you going to take pennies and nickels and dimes for me when it was supposed to have been free and I'll say it again and I shout it out if you plan on using TurboTax don't do it because it's not free.

WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY? I WANT THE FREE EDITION
The information that you can enter in Free Edition is pretty limited now. Thanks to the new tax laws that began for 2018 returns, there are no more simple Form 1040EZ or 1040A's. Everything goes on a Form 1040 that has three extra "schedules" with it, and if you need any of those schedules, you are not able to use the Free Edition. Using the standard deduction instead of itemizing does NOT mean you will not need any of those schedules.https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/4511011-what-happened-to-the-1040a-and-1040ez If you started in the Free Edition and entered any data that required any of those three schedules, you have to upgrade to a paid version and if you are watching the screens carefully you are alerted to the upgrade.
When you chose to “start” in the Free Edition —
Directly below the words “Free Edition” there is a blue link that says “For simple tax returns only” If you click that link it brings up this information:
You can file with TurboTax Free Edition if you have a simple tax return.*
*A simple tax return is Form 1040 only.

How does TurboTax make any money?
Customers with more complex tax situations will file with our paid TurboTax products that provide all the additional forms and guidance they need. We also offer additional benefits that go beyond filing your taxes, but they are optional and are not required to file simple taxes for free. We hope that, over time, as our customers with simple returns need more capabilities as their financial situations change (for example owning a home, having a child, managing investments), they have loved our products and services so much that they will choose our paid TurboTax offerings to prepare and file their returns.
Or—-Use this IRS site for other ways to file for free. There are 8 free software versions available from the IRS Free File site

Or—if you live in certain states you may be eligible to use the new IRS Direct File
( AZ, CA, FL, MA, NH, NV, NY, SD, TN, TX, WA, WY )
How can I see my TurboTax fees?
https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/2565973-how-do-i-review-my-fees-in-turbotax-online
If your TurboTax fees are higher than expected, you can reduce them by removing add-ons (BEFORE you e-file) :
TurboTax service is TERRIBLE. Full of EXCUSES from the tax experts!!! With this pre-price preview rate of $409, I can get a CPA to amend 2022 tax and file my tax for me in 2023 both State and Federal Taxes. TurboTax took my paid service fees of $200+ for HORRIBLE guided tax experts in 2022, 3+ days, and almost a week waiting period and an extension of my 2023 tax year, and still couldn't figure out my personal income tax with only TWO 1099-B statements with less than 200 option transactions, a HSA tax form, and TWO W2 statements. TURBOTAX service is getting WORST year over year and over charging their customers!!!
During TAX season, I never get to talk to any TAX EXPERT and I had to file for EXTENSION.
TERRIBLE!!!!!
The more you complain, the more TurboTax slows down its customer service and charges you more. This is the way you treat your customers. I can't sit in silent about this issue and I will let many people know as much as I can.
Good luck. They took 160 dollars of my tax return when it should’ve been free. I’m filing with Better Business Bureau and will never use turbo tax again.
