I’m currently in TurboTax live, by accident but started with TurboTax deluxe and want to go back to using TurboTax deluxe. I didn’t use the live help or anything. I’ve spent countless time working on my tax and do not want to clear all my work — I just want to downgrade and finish filing my taxes. The instructions I’ve seen thus far is not available to me.
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
Yes, you can remove TurboTax Live as long as you haven't used the Tax Expert feature.
Here's how to do that:
You can also call Support as tagteam suggests above.
I hope this worked out for you. This is the most convoluted system to try to get to the right product from the beginning as it tries to upsell you right away and hides all the options. I am having to clear and restart like three times now because of the menus of only two products at a time being forced on me.
Same thing happened to me. Assuming Turbo is using the same product I used last year in my account. Or at least I would have an option as some point. I never heard of or use "LIVE" but it "automatically" assigned me LIVE wo my knowledge. Now I can't go backwards wo starting over. Downgrade to non-live does not work even if you didn't use "live". I read Intuit and H&R block have been fined $millions for doing this already. Why keep doing this? Please, is there any method to downgrade to deluxe wo "live" wo starting over?
Thanks Dave
You should be able to downgrade, If not, please call Customer Service.
If you want to downgrade, this FAQ will tell you how: How do I downgrade to a different TurboTax Online product?

I called Turbo Tax Tech Support and they quickly sympathized with this dilemma. Apparently, they understand you cannot simply go backwards to Turbo Tax Deluxe as it only takes you to Simple Turbo Tax that we cannot use. Anyway, the Tech quickly provided me a credit "code" to apply to my bill. The code must be entered at the bottom of the payment page. Kind of shocked that the Tech tried to "take control" of my computer (without asking me!) to do this for me. Really! I quickly shut that down. It's not rocket science. Just cut and paste the code to the payment page yourself. The credit immediately lowered my total Fed & State payment. I was thrilled how quickly they handled the situation and I didn't have to re-enter all my 1040 data. However, not thrilled with the time required to crawl out of this rabbit hole. All returns accepted in timely fashion. My faith restored. Thank You
Ok I figured it out. If you do not have the option to downgrade then you have to clear and start over. To do that go to tools (in left side bar), select start over. Once you start over it will take you to the same turbotax live page… once the box pops up for you to select and live option/add more… SCROLL ALL THE WAY DOWN IN THE BOX. You will be able to select a downgraded version. It is small print at the bottom of each column so pay close attention. Once you select the downgrade version you are good to go! Hope this helps. I was super frustrated trying to figure this out.
Thank you! This is exactly what worked for us. Turbo Tax, it's terrible how you deliberately hide the ability to opt-out -- clearly a feature, not a bug. Awful way to do business, especially *after* the FTC orders and settlement with state attorneys general.
I was automatically assigned the Live Premium product instead of the typical premium DIY I use and didn't catch it in time. I called customer service as I didn't have a downgrade option either. The only option they gave me to change products was to clear and start over...not cool. I asked for a discount code to cover the difference and they offered me 20% which is ridiculous. I have been using TurboTax for 15+ years. It is very disappointing that the bait & switch seems alive & well with this company
Do you have the code that gives you a credit for the unwanted charges when the product automatically switches itself to Deluxe live, when you only wanted or needed Deluxe (a new way to force people to pay more w/o their consent)?
For billing issues, you will need to contact TurboTax customer support to request a credit. Please see How do I contact TurboTax?
IT DOES NOT LET ME CLEAR AND START OVER.
Have you already paid your TurboTax fees? If you already paid the fees you can't clear and start over.
You always have the option to create a new TurboTax account and start over that way.
