I will not do downloads and will only use CDs. Too bad, I was a loyal customer for decades. but INTUIT isn't loyal to their customers only their greed focused management. There are FREE alternatives to explore. Thanks
Buy the TurboTax download and get the license code - https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/cd-download/
Then buy the CD for $10 here - https://turbotax.intuit.com/lp/ttd/4021/
Note - No other tax preparations software companies are issuing CD's.
Ordered install disk 3 weeks ago and it still hasn't shown up. Called customer service to see if they can give me a tracking number and they insisted that Turbotax no longer offers a CD. Their own customer service doesn't even know what's going on. Waited for 30 minutes to be told she did find my order number but, no they don't have a tracking number. No other help available.
Hey. Remember Blackberry--the most popular smartphone on the planet? They're no longer selling phones and barely alive because they didn't care what their customers wanted. Too important and popular to fail, indeed.
I am extremely disappointed in the download version of turbo Tax Home and Business. It does NOT carry over any of my past years return information and I have been using Turbo Tax since 2014. I have had to recreate EVERYTHING including the square footage of my home office and have no comparison of past years to 2024 information!!
There is definitely a problem with the 2024 program. I called and spoke with a Rep who could not HELP at all.
I am EXTREMELY disappointed and TOTALLY ANNOYED with this, as one of the reasons I have stayed with Turbo Tax is because it carries over information from year to year and that makes life a lot simpler.
I will NOT PURCHASE it another year after this total FIASCO !!!
-ONE VERY UNHAPPY CUSTOMER
@sjsappr The download edition does not have anything to do with not transferring the prior year tax data.
If you installed the 2024 TurboTax software on the same computer that you used for the 2023 tax return, then when you started a New 2024 tax return the software will look in the TurboTax folder within your Documents directory for any 2023 tax data file. If none found then you need to find out where you stored the prior year tax data file.
I have used the TurboTax download software from at least tax year 2007 and every year the prior year transfers to the current tax year. So your problem is NOT the download.
That's OK. I've been using TurboTax for so long, I don't even remember when I started, anymore.
This year, I couldn't even install the program onto the same computer I've used for the last 3 years. I keep getting an error message, and it simply will not install. Got the disk and that wasn't any help either.
Ultimately, I had to go to H&R Block - yes, I know. It's a download. No other choice. I know exactly where I stored my previous years data file. It's supposed to fill in my previous years info. Guess what - I still had to fill in half the info I never had to fill in before. This is a frustrating year all around.
I can appreciate the frustration people feel when they struggle with software. Believe you me, I have had LOTS of experience with THAT since I have worked IN the industry since the first PC and Mac products.
And funny thing, for ALL the complaints how horrible TurboTax is for not being able to install or transfer data or all the other myriad complaints.
Mine? NONE!
And I've used TurboTax since version 1.
I've used CD versions and the modern download version. NEVER an issue installing, uninstalling, reinstalling, countless times. Heck, over the course of this bashing of TurboTax, I have reinstalled AND successfully run versions 2016 to 2024, FIVE times now.
I don't give a **bleep** what your experience is. I don't want to jump through hoops and wait for downloads, updates, error message, dropped downloads etc. I just want to stick in a disk anywhere, without internet, without blue tooth and run my tax return. I want a CD that I can place in the folder with my tax return documents after I'm done. It's called providing Value currently providing customer value with like companies is a dying customer benefit. In other words companies are only concerned about themselves and not the people who fund them.
@mrunderhood You can buy an install CD for 2024 for $10 after you buy the download and a License Code
https://turbotax.intuit.com/lp/ttd/4021
The only reason TurboTax came out with the CD was because of all the backlash they got for not providing it in the first place.
Think back. Even the previous download versions they offered were first burnt onto a CD, then installed from the setup.exe on the disk that was burned. I know that to be true, since I did that through Amazon at least 4 times before, plus the countless CD's I've purchased.
Part of my beef is, why should I have to pay an additional $10 on top of the cost of the original program. The choice should be offered from the jump - with the License Code - if you want to have it downloaded, or on CD.
In my case, I couldn't install Turbo Tax at all on my computer. The techs kept telling me I must have a setting on my computer that wouldn't allow it to be installed. So why is it only their program that won't install, when any and every other program installs without a hitch. Doesn't make sense. With (I purchased it) or without the CD.
Background- We earned BS/MAcc in Tax from TOP 3 Nationally Ranked Tax University. Because of download / save issues- it would be very nice to have Turbotax on CD! Let me say that TurboTax software has NEVER been so BAD!! Upon download- 2024 TurboTax repeatedly did NOT create 2024 tax folders to save 2024 tax files in. When 2023 tax returns were rolled over, Turbotax repeatedly saved 2024 tax returns in 2023 Tax File!
Other issues, I saved 2024 pdf copy of tax return & emailed it & put it on a flash drive to work on it on another computer, but because I don't have every state included in that return on the other computer- Turbotax wont allow me to open the pdf file. It's a .pdf!! Error: 190. Also, working file did not save on flash drive either!
We have been repeatedly been unable to download Capital Loss/Gain info from Schwab broker FOR YRS!!
Finally, we worked w/ earlier TurboTax Lacerte company tax software 35 yrs ago that allowed complete depreciation list of assets to be sold via 1 check indicating entire list of assets in same business were sold. CONVOLUTED TurboTax instead requires taxpayers to some how allocate the total sales price individually to each asset on a list of a MYRIAD of assets. Seriously?? WTH??!
It is difficult sometimes to see change. For every person who needs a CD, there are a million who have no problem with downloading and installing. The $10 would just cover the cost of burning a CD then paying someone to package it and postage to mail it. But because there are so few people who want the CD perhaps it will be provided free next year. That seems like a good way to make customers happy.
This whole thing with TurboTax going online only is all too familiar.
I also use Intuit's QuickBooks for bookkeeping. For over 12 years I used QuickBooks. I used the Desktop version during that time. Very easy and each company file was save-able. Then Intuit decides, unless you are a very large company, everyone else is going to have to change to their online version, because they will not support the desktop version anymore. Trust me - it's horrible. Plus, you can't save your company files like you used to. Everything is in the cloud.
Intuit has shown that they force everyone to do cloud based only, but they haven't gotten all the bugs out yet beforehand.
This is nothing short of pure GREED. Seventy bucks instead of fifty and no packaging. This is the end of my Turbo Tax years.
I believe you are being too paranoid and must not understand that TurboTax will not work without the internet and updates many times during the tax season. Most computers now days don't even have a CD/DVD installed unless you have a USB portable one.
Intuit will miss you, but you will be the one who loses when you find out that no one else has the CD either and you will not get the best tax program.
Good luck with that.
I have had a turbotax subscription for a few years now. Mailed in CD. But this year, it is Mar 8th and still no CD. I had no idea, after checking into intuit, that they unilaterally made the decision for download only.
BAD Intuit
