DEMAND TURBOTAX NOT TO DISCONTINUE CD FOR 2024 TAX YEAR

I am very disappointed that TurboTax does not come in a CD.

I've been using TuroTax since 2010.

I purchased the TurboTax Premier from BJ's, not realizing it was a download.

When I pulled the tab, expecting a disk to come out, all I got was a card with my instructions and License Code.

When I went to the website to download, chose the program, chose Windows as my OS, then did what I needed to install.  The installation got about half way and failed - multiple times.

Contacted tech support.  They had me check some settings, and try again - nothing.

After over an hour, I was sent to level 2 support.  They also came up the same way.

They then said they will refund my purchase and suggest I get the download directly from TurboTax.

PROBLEM- I won't get the sales tax back, a loss of $4.06, then, even with the discount they offered me, it would be $15.00 more than I spent originally.  Besides, what is going to be different if I still have to download it. I'm still downloading from the same site.  It's just costing me more to do it.

When I check the website for the disk, They want $105.00 for the program plus $10.00 for the disk or $115.00.

I paid $65.00 + tax for my program.  Why on earth would I spend an additional $50.  I am willing to spend the $10 for the disk, but I already have the program License Code.  Make sure you delete the program from the order if you already have it.  There are much better deals available than buying directly from TurboTax.

So you can buy the disk from Turbotax for $10 +tax and use the Activation code you already got from BJs. The disk doesn't come with a code.  You use the code you get from with the no-disk package from a retailer.

At least that's the way it's supposed to work.  My theory is that the disk contains some extra software that a computer needs to download the program (like Microsoft C++).  Can't believe the techs couldn't help you get it going. They don't seemed to be able to make it work without the disk either.  Maybe they're just playing dumb so we'll have to buy from TT at extra cost.

Just wondering if Intuit did their due diligence with program testing before releasing this latest non-disk version.  These issues should’ve been weeded out well ahead of the release of their final 2024 release.

I have a feeling the level 2 tech knew the disk was now available, because that person suggested they send me the "alternative means" to install.  At the time, I thought they were going to send me the .exe by email, but now this is making much more sense.

Ordered the disk.  I'm willing to wager it installs this time.

I have used your product for over 10 years. I always purchase the CD version. Over the years I have upgraded my computer and downloaded T tax onto the new computer.  I will be looking for a different tax program. Your decision appears to be do what is best for the company not the client!

@jnev1429   No one is selling CDs anymore.

You can now buy an install CD for $10 after you buy a License Code for the version you want.  You can also burn the installation file to a CD or save to a usb flash drive.

But since you now have to log into an Intuit Account all your downloads and licenses are listed there (even if you bought it from somewhere else) so if you need to download to install it again or install on another computer, even on the other operating system (Windows, Mac).  And the download will always be up to date with all the updates.

But even if you have the CDs you won’t be able to reinstall 2020 or prior.  They only support the last 3 years.  And the License Code started in 2019.  So 2019 and newer needs to connect to Turbo Tax to verify the License Code.  But they have stopped supporting 2020 and prior.  So you can’t activate 2019 and each year going forward.

I will not purchase turbotax another year. If I cannot get the actual CD.   i have purchased it since the 1980's and if I cannot get the actual CD for 2024 then I will no longer use Turbotax

I think the download version sucks.   If you have an issue with your computer and you lose it then you're screwed.  

It is the actual CD or I am finished with Turbotax

@Servant2jc     You can now buy an install CD for $10 AFTER you buy the download and License Code for the version you want. That’s if you don’t want to use the download method or want to reinstall or install it another computer.

After a week and a half, I have dealt with tech support 6 times, went to level 2 support twice, purchased the disk, was connected to the supervisors twice and I still don't have TurboTax INSTALLED on my computer.  They went through all the usual steps that could prevent it from installing, but I could not get TurboTax to install on my computer.  The first supervisor said I could get the refund on my program, for all the trouble I've had, get the disk, and try again.  I specifically asked, will I still be able to use my License Code.  She said "YES".  Never was able to install it, even with the disk, even with the help of a tech (again).  Everyone told me, it must have something to do with my settings that is blocking it.  

I then decided, the only other option was to install it on my wife's computer.  Not what I wanted, since she uses it for work all day, and beyond that, it's not supposed to be there.  It actually installed on her pc.  Tried to input the license code. TurboTax wouldn't accept it.  Call back support.  The tech has me try it a couple of times. Then it's up to a supervisor, and she has me try a couple of times. Then I get an error that they say means "You used the code too many times".  Since when is there a maximum number of installations?

I AM DONE WITH TURBOTAX!!!

Purchased H&R Block for $15.00 less than TurboTax, and it works just as well and still does everything I need it to do.  It is a download, but it works and they allow you to reinstall and use the activation code again, if needed in the future.  BTW, it installed first try.

Should have done that at the very beginning.

I will not do downloads and will only use CDs. Too bad, I was a loyal customer for decades. but INTUIT isn't loyal to their customers only their greed focused management.  There are FREE alternatives to explore. Thanks
