For 2022 return? It's way to early to finish and file. There will be many updates to come. And you haven't got all your forms yet like W2 and 1099. Even when Turbo Tax opens filing in mid January they will stockpile the returns until the IRS starts pulling them in late January. There's no hurry.
Submitting your forms? No. E-filing is not even open yet for 2022 tax returns. You will have to wait. Tax year 2022 is not even over yet. Employers have until January 31 to issue W-2's, financial institutions will issue 1099's by late January or early to mid-February, 1099NEC's will be issued by end of January......
Wait until you have all of your information so that you do not send in an incorrect return that will have to be amended--which will take months.
The IRS will open e-filing in late January. Many forms are not yet ready, so patience is advised.
And....if you are talking about a 2021 or earlier return, you cannot use online software for that. Online preparation and e-filing are permanently closed for 2021 or earlier.
@jamelb89 - you can't submit until 1) all the tax forms are available (mid-late January), 2) the IRS begins accepting 2022 tax returns (normally late January) and 3) you received all your documents from employers and financial organizations; they are required to get them to you by Jan 31 for employers and most financial firms follow the date deadline.
further, the IRS is not permitted by law to process any tax return that has an Eearned Income tax credit benefit until February 15th.
What is the rush? and the risk is if you file quickly and then receive another form in the mail, that will require an amendment and amendments are taking a good 6 monthds to process..
Lesson Learned: Wait until mid-February at the earliest to file!
Hey, I appreciate you responding! Im submitting my 2021 return not 2022. There wasnt enough characters to put the year as well. What do I do when im speaking on 2021 taxes? *** Sorry Im really new to this

@jamelb89- I assume you are using the desktop version. Simply print the return, sign and enclose the documents that support the withholdings. You can not efile.
You must mean 2021 for the year ending 12/31/2021 that you file in 2022. In 2023 we file for 2022. I think a post above says how to file 2021.
Did you start it last year? How to finish a return you started online,
Sorry it's too, late to start a 2021 online return or use the mobile app, either on Turbo Tax or the IRS. And too late to efile 2021
If you need to start 2021 you can buy the Desktop download here,
TurboTax 2021 Prior Year Tax Prep - File Past Years' Taxes
You will need a full Windows or Mac to install it on.
It sounds like you are trying to use the 2022 online program for a 2021 return, which is a BIG mistake. You cannot use the online program for a 2021 return. Stop. You will need to clear out any 2021 income information you entered and save the account for when you are ready to prepare your 2022 return.'
The only way to use TurboTax to prepare a 2021 return is to use the CD/download on a full PC or Mac. You will not be able to e-file. The return will have to be printed, signed and dated in ink, and mailed in. It will take the IRS 6 to 9 months to process it.
Online preparation and e-filing for 2019 and 2020 and 2021 is permanently closed.
To file a return for a prior tax year
If you need to prepare a return for 2019, 2020 or 2021 you can purchase and download desktop software to do it, then print, sign, and mail the return(s)
https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/past-years-products/
You may also want to explore purchasing the software from various retailers such as Amazon, Costco, Best Buy, Walmart, Sam’s, etc.
Remember to prepare your state return as well—if you live in a state that has a state income tax.
When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s. Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.
Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses. Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
Note: The desktop software you need to prepare the prior year return must be installed/downloaded to a full PC or Mac. It cannot be used on a mobile device.
hi it says just one more step and will file your returns and It will not go to the third step. What do I do???
Maybe you are waiting for some forms. Click Review to see if you are missing some forms needed in order to e-file.
Many federal and state forms are not yet available. Check here for form availability. The dates are subject to change.
No hurry to e-file since the IRS will not begin to accept/reject 2023 e-files until January 29. And….a state return cannot be accepted until after the IRS accepts your federal return.

Another thing to check—make sure the address on your tax return and the address on your method of payment match each other.
I am trying to file my 2023 taxes and getting this error:
The IRS hasn't finalized one or more of your forms. Once forms are finalized, you will be able to access this section.
I see responses from last year, but this is 2/5/2024.
Thank you
