Employers have until January 31 to issue W-2's, financial institutions will issue 1099's by late January or early to mid-February, 1099NEC's will be issued by end of January......
Wait until you have all of your information so that you do not send in an incorrect return that will have to be amended--which will take months.
The IRS will open e-filing in late January. Many forms are not yet ready, so patience is advised.
And....if you are talking about a 2021 or earlier return, you cannot use online software for that. Online preparation and e-filing are permanently closed for 2021 or earlier.
