Are you getting charged the $20 for state efile?  In the Desktop program you get one free state PROGRAM download to prepare unlimited state returns. Then each state return (including the first one) is $20 to efile, usually goes up to $25 March 1. Or you can print and mail state for free.

When you download Turbo Tax, it gives you the forms for Federal and State. Once you enter all of your information, it is free to file Federal Return, but you will have to pay to file State Return. I just did mine and I paid $10 to file my state return. It is normally $20 but since I bought it from BJs, there was a $10 credit.

It looks like you are posting from the Online version.  Why did you use the Online version if you bought the Desktop program?

If you have a License Code you need to install the Desktop CD/Download program and not use the Online version.  How to install with a License Code

Sorry you can't apply the Desktop CD/Download program purchase to the Online version.  They are separate prices and work different.  You have to pay for online and try to get a refund for the Desktop program.  Or switch to your program.

If you already started in the Online version you can move your return to the Desktop program even without paying for Online.

First download the .tax file from the Online version,

Then see, How to Switch to Desktop,

Did you buy the CD from Costco or the download version from Costco online?  I bought the CD from Costco.  If you bought the CD, Download it instead.  Downloading better for many reasons.

There should be a card in the CD case or on the CD envelope that says how to download it and you will need the 14 or 16 digit code from it to enter.

How to install TurboTax CD/Download software with license code

Here's what I did........

Go to installturbotax.com

Log into my account or create a new account

Enter Code, it didn't look like it was formatting it right but I waited

and it put the dashes in the right places

Download showed up in my Account

I first clicked on the little blue "copy code"

Then clicked on the big Window Download button

It downloaded the exe file in the bottom left, then I clicked on it to

start the install

Launch TurboTax

Do Updates - took a long time but it updated

But it didn't restart.  Didn't restart last year either

So clicked on desktop icon to launch

When the Activation box came up I just did  Ctrl+V to paste the License

Code that was still in my clipboard.  It worked!
