Stimulus Payments

I have not received any stimulus payments for my daughter and while doing my taxes I do not see where to claim it? Am I missing something? I have tried calling for support and they could not figure it out either.

The stimulus check is an advance on a credit you can receive on your 2020 tax return.  If something went wrong or you did not get the stimulus check in 2020, you can get it when you file your 2020 return in early 2021

The Recovery Rebate Credit will be found in the FEDERAL REVIEW section. ( you should see "Let's make sure you got the right stimulus amount”)  If you are eligible it will end up on line 30 of your 2020 Form 1040.

Make sure that you enter ALL of the stimulus money received for the 1st ad 2nd stimulus for yourself, your spouse and your children.

Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the screen. Click on Tools. Click on View Tax Summary. Click on Preview my 1040 on the left side of the screen.

Even if  you are not “prompted” to enter the stimulus information, you can access to the section directly by following these steps:

  • Sign in to your account, select Pick up where you left off
  • At the right upper corner, in the search box, type in "stimulus" and Enter
  • Select Jump to stimulus
  • Follow prompts

You can find the Recovery Rebate Credit information under Review or the steps listed below.

If you have not received one or both of your stimulus checks, you will receive your payment in the form of a Recovery Rebate Credit on line 30 of your 2020 Federal tax return when you file.

TurboTax will compare your one or two stimulus payment amounts to the computations within TurboTax.  The computations within TurboTax are based upon the information that you have entered into the tax software.  If you are due an additional amount, it will be issued as a Recovery Rebate Credit (RRC) on line 30 of the 2020 1040 tax return.

In TurboTax Online, you are prompted to input stimulus check 1 and stimulus check 2 information under Review down the left hand side of the screen.  Make sure that you report all the stimulus funds received for yourself, your spouse and your dependents.

You can access your stimulus check choices by following these steps:

  • Down the left side of the screen, click on Federal.
  • Across the top of the screen, click on Other Tax Situations.
  • At the screen Let’s keep going to wrap up.  Click on Let’s keep going.
  • At the screen Let’s make sure you got the right stimulus amount, click Continue.
  • At the screen Did you get a stimulus payment? you can update your stimulus check entries.

When you go through the stimulus questions, enter the amounts you received and TurboTax will calculate what you should have received based on your tax return and claim the recovery rebate for the difference (which should be the amount for your daughter).    What was your AGI in 2020?   If it was too high, you may not qualify for the rebate.

Go to the search bar up top and type in stimulus (make sure you are all the way inside of your return or search does not function), hit enter and then use the Jump to stimulus link to be taken to the questions.  You will enter 2 amounts.  It is important that you enter the amount you received for the first payment in the 1st box and the amount you received for the 2nd payment in the 2nd box.  Because the amounts paid out were different, if you transpose these 2 numbers, you may generate a recovery rebate that you are not qualified for or forego claiming one that you do qualify for.
