0.00 It worked for me
I am wondering how many people OVER 64, with low to modest earned incomes and NO children don’t realize they may actually qualify for this credit? The rules are different this year. Possibly next?
@Liz1950 You added on to a very long thread about different things. Which credit are you referring to? You can't get the Child Tax Credit if you have no children.
Great
I did that and it still is telling me there is a problem and will not calculate the form
If you used "0.00" and it didn't worked I can not help. Sorry. I wish I could.
@Lyman600 This has been answered more than once in this thread.
Everyone has to answer whether they received advance child tax credit payments. If you did not receive any of those payments between July and December you need to answer that you did not receive any payments.
There are so many scenarios with those payments---like divorced/never married parents who have issues over who received the payments, who claimed the children, etc. --- the software has no way of knowing if any of that involves you---so you have to answer the questions about it.
Please follow these steps to indicate you did not receive any advanced payments:
I have a schedule 8812 and I don't have any children dependents, how do I get rid of that form!

Everyone is being asked this question since TurboTax does not know if the user was one who received these advances from the IRS in 2021.
Enter a 0 (zero) when asked to enter a number on the Schedule 8812. This will correct the issue and remove the Schedule 8812 from your tax return so that you can file the return.
Since you do not have dependents and did not receive any advance child tax credits in 2021, the Schedule 8812 will not be included in the 2021 tax return that is filed.
Seems dumb minded to me.
Sorry but the program cannot assume anything this year in reguards to the advance CTC payments so EVERYONE is being asked that question which is just the right thing to do.
Who do you we recommend enhancements to, it would take dev less than a minute to include that in the pop up message. Simple Note: explanation would go a long way. Versus hours trying to find your perfect explanation.
