The Pay with Refund option is currently not available.  We do not yet have a date when the option will return.

Why do you want to pay an EXTRA fee for the refund processing service at all ?   Use a credit/debit card to pay the fees upfront and save yourself that fee if you can.

Better yet ... If your AGI is $73K or less then use one of the IRS FREE FILE options :

@Critter-3 - because if you are 'unbanked', you don't have a credit card or a debit card.......

The "unbanked" are preyed upon by this costly programs so these "unbanked" folks need to wise up and buy a Prepaid Debit card at almost any store for $5  to use in lieu of a bank account.   All they have to do is put enough on the card to cover the TT fees then they can use that same debit card to get the refund deposited ... they save $35 that way by avoiding the absurd refund processing fees.

Also, if these folks have an AGI of $73K or less then they should be using one of the IRS FREE FILE options instead of a paid tax program.  Sadly if your AGI is over $73K  and you are "unbanked" and  you don't have enough cash to pay the TT fees upfront by using  one of the readily available prepaid debit cards  on the market then I feel very bad for those folks.     https://www.irs.gov/filing/free-file-do-your-federal-taxes-for-free

@Bdub18044  - that product feature was turned off over this past weekend and will be unavailable for the rest of this year.  I talked to product support at TT this morning and they confirmed this.  Hopefully they will post something more official on their website.

WOW ... maybe they are reconsidering their partnership with SBTPG since they have messed up really bad this year.

So what about the people who chose DIRECT DEPOSIT and chose for certain things to be deducted from their taxes the week prior before they turnt that feature off… will a check be mailed instead or will they still receive Direct deposit ?

ps: what phone number did you call to speak to that department

If you requested the Pay with Refund option and have already e-filed your tax return -

If you requested to have the TurboTax account fees deducted from your federal tax refund, the IRS will send the refund to a third party processor to have the fees and the service charge deducted. The third party processor will deduct the TurboTax fees plus the service charge and then attempt to direct deposit the remaining refund balance into the account that you entered on your tax return.

For the status of your tax refund you will need to contact the third party processor, Santa Barbara Tax Product Group, using their website - https://www.sbtpg.com/

@Bdub18044  what Product Support told me was that as long as the refund is processed by the end of September by the IRS, the refund will still be direct deposited.  Fees will be netted from the refund (but rememb, if the return is not processed within 26 days of acceptance, Turbo Tax has the right to debit your bank account for the fees in any event.)

if the refund is processed by the IRS post Oct 1, assume the refund will be mailed.

but really, and this is a personal opinion, having the fees netted from the return is really, really expensive.  You are paying $40 when a debit card or credit card would avoid that charge.  And if you have direct deposit, you probably (but not always) have a debit card.
