HI ,

We received stimulus for my family (me , wife and kid) in 2021. We had a another new baby in 2021 Jan, since IRS sent stimulus based on 2020 tax filings, we didnt receive stimulus for new baby born in 2021. Now i am filing taxes for 2021 , Where can i claim stimulus for new born baby. I don't see an option in turbo tax. can some one please help me here?

TurboTax automatically calculates that.  You can check it when it comes up later, in the review section, rather than the deductions and credits section.

Go back to the stimulus section and check the stimulus number you entered.

TurboTax tells you the amount of stimulus you should have received, including the baby.

Change this number to the amount you actually received, which is $1,400 less.

To get to the stimulus section in TurboTax online:

• Type "stimulus" in Search in the upper right
• Select "Jump to stimulus"
• TurboTax will ask whether the amount you're eligible for matches what you got.
• Say No
• TurboTax will let you enter what you got and add the extra to your refund

My family in 2021(me, wife and my first  kid) got stimulus check of 4200$ bank deposit. I believe its (1400 + 1400 + 1400, since we are three) . now while   filing tax returns on turbo tax, i got a question to confirm the amount received by me and my wife via stimulus, from irs site i see i received 2100$ and i guess same goes with my wife account as well 2100$, i believe irs split my first kids amount to me and my wife. So for question TurboTax will ask whether the amount you're eligible for matches what you got. i answered no and entered 4200$. I got a screen saying you have received what you are eligible for . Looks like it didnt look for new dependent who got added in the dependents section(new born baby born in Jan 2021). How to let IRS know, that we  have a new baby, and request for  stimulus 3

You may be missing the SSN for your new baby.   If your new baby does not have a social security number entered in your return, they are not eligible for the Recovery Rebate Credit.

You have to let TurboTax know, not IRS.

If you don't tell TurboTax your kid lived with you all year, even if they are not 365 days old,

TurboTax won't count the child as a dependent.

Make sure you have entered your child as a dependent in My Info, and that you have entered the child's Social Security number. If your child was born in 2021make sure you said he lived with you the whole year.  There is an oddly worded question that asks if the child paid over half their own support.  Say NO to that question.

Sometimes people accidentally say the child's SS card says not vaild for employment and that will mess you up too.

I have already  filled the details like you mentioned . But still doesn't show me stimulus for new born .

How many dependents did you claim for 2020?   Are you claiming the same number of dependents for 2021?   Or is the baby an additional dependent?   

If the baby is an additional dependent then you have to be answering something incorrectly.   Delete the child in My Info and re-enter all the baby's information going very slowly and carefully through the screens.

You never said if you checked your return 1040 line 30 to see if it shows the 1,400 for the baby.  You also should get the Child Tax Credit 3,600 for them on line 28.  Did you get that one?

I can see child credit for new born baby, but not stimulus. So myinfo shouldnt be a problem , ican try your suggestion

I would delete and re enter both kids.  You got the Stimulus payment for 3 people based on 2020.   It still thinks you only have 1 kid and the baby is replacing the first one.  Are you still claiming the first kid this year?

Yes, i am adding a new one. Now total dependents will be 2 for me and my wife.
